Data Scientist Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data scientist in Georgia?
Data science has no state-issued license in Georgia, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most Georgia employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, with a master's preferred for mid-level and senior roles. Georgia Tech's graduate analytics programs and Georgia State's data science offerings are well-regarded locally. Building a portfolio of applied projects and earning cloud or machine learning certifications strengthens a Georgia application considerably.
How much do data scientists make in Georgia?
Data scientists in Georgia earn a median of about $104,340 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,750 for the lowest 10% to over $170,010 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data scientists in Georgia?
Employers hiring data scientists in Georgia right now include The Home Depot, AIG, and 4P Consulting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Georgia's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, large healthcare systems, and fintech firms creates steady demand across a range of industries and team sizes.
Which Georgia cities have the most data scientist jobs?
Atlanta, Augusta, and Forest Park have the most data scientist openings in Georgia. Atlanta anchors the market through its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and healthcare networks, while Alpharetta draws demand from its established technology and cybersecurity corridor, and Savannah's growing logistics and port-related operations have added analytics roles in recent years.
Are there remote data scientist jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most fields. Data science is an almost entirely desk-based analytical role, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 32% of data scientist openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly companies have accepted distributed analytics teams. Roles focused on modeling, research, and reporting tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a data scientist in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an analytics associate or junior data analyst role, which large Georgia employers like Delta Air Lines, Anthem, and major Atlanta-area health systems regularly staff as stepping stones into full data science work. Georgia Tech's co-op program and Georgia State's internship pipelines connect students directly to Atlanta-area employers. A portfolio of completed machine learning projects on real datasets, combined with a cloud practitioner certification, gives early-career candidates a concrete edge over applicants with only coursework.
