Dental Assistant Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental assistant in Idaho?
To work as a dental assistant in Idaho, you must register with the Idaho State Board of Dentistry, which oversees credentialing for dental assistants in the state. Most employers expect completion of an accredited dental assisting program, though some hire candidates with equivalent on-the-job experience. To perform radiographic procedures independently, you must pass a board-recognized radiology examination. Expanded-function duties require additional certification approved by the Idaho State Board of Dentistry.
Which companies hire dental assistants in Idaho?
Employers hiring dental assistants in Idaho right now include Aspen Dental, Centurion Health, and Willamette Dental, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Idaho's mix of large regional health systems, growing orthodontic group practices, and federally qualified community health centers across both urban and rural areas creates consistent openings at multiple experience levels.
Which Idaho cities have the most dental assistant jobs?
The cities with the most dental assistant openings in Idaho are Boise, Nampa, and Post Falls. Boise anchors the market as the state's largest metro and home to its major health systems, while Nampa and Idaho Falls generate strong demand from expanding suburban populations, regional medical centers, and independent dental group practices serving their surrounding communities.
Are there remote dental assistant jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of dental assistant openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, reflecting the hands-on, chairside nature of most dental assisting work. The small share of remote-eligible roles typically involves dental billing, insurance coordination, or administrative scheduling rather than clinical duties.
How can I get hired as a dental assistant in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to dental assistant trainee or front-office support roles at community health centers and large group practices, which often train candidates on the job. Idaho's federally qualified health centers, such as those operated through Terry Reilly Health Services and Bluewater Health, have historically brought in candidates from front-desk and patient-services roles. Completing the Idaho State Board of Dentistry-recognized radiology certification before applying, even without clinical hours, gives candidates a meaningful edge over others with no credentials.
