Deputy Attorney General Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a deputy attorney general in Idaho?
You must hold an active Idaho State Bar license to work as a deputy attorney general in Idaho. That requires graduating from an ABA-accredited law school, passing the Idaho Bar Examination administered by the Idaho State Bar, and completing the character and fitness review. Attorneys licensed in other states may apply through the Idaho State Bar's admission on motion process, which waives the written exam for qualifying candidates with sufficient practice experience.
Which companies hire deputy attorney generals in Idaho?
Idaho deputy attorney general roles are posted by State of Idaho, Canyon County, and Twin Falls County and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The Idaho Office of the Attorney General is the primary state-level employer, with individual divisions covering consumer protection, criminal appeals, civil litigation, and agency counsel work across Idaho's executive branch.
Which Idaho cities have the most deputy attorney general jobs?
Boise, Caldwell, and Twin Falls account for the largest share of deputy attorney general openings in Idaho. Boise dominates because it is the seat of state government and home to the Idaho Office of the Attorney General and most state agency headquarters, while Pocatello and Idaho Falls generate openings through regional agency offices and district-level government legal work that serves eastern Idaho.
Are there remote deputy attorney general jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. About 100% of deputy attorney general openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that most positions require court appearances, in-person agency collaboration, and access to case files held at state offices. Research-heavy appellate and advisory roles are the most likely to offer partial remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a deputy attorney general in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through the Idaho Office of the Attorney General's law clerk or entry-level staff attorney positions, which are designed for newly admitted attorneys building their first litigation portfolio. Clerking for an Idaho district or appellate court judge is a strong credential that the office actively recognizes. Candidates who have worked as public defenders, legal aid attorneys, or judicial clerks anywhere in Idaho's court system are well positioned for the junior openings that arise in the criminal appeals and civil litigation divisions.
Where can I find and apply to deputy attorney general jobs in Idaho?
