Environmental Attorney Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an environmental attorney in Idaho?
You become an environmental attorney in Idaho by earning a Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and passing the Idaho State Bar examination administered by the Idaho State Bar. After passing, you must be admitted to practice and maintain an active license. Specializing through coursework or a clinic in natural resources, environmental, or administrative law strengthens your candidacy for Idaho positions, where water law and federal land regulation expertise is especially valued.
Which companies hire environmental attorneys in Idaho?
Companies currently hiring environmental attorneys in Idaho include State of Idaho, Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, and Quanta Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's mining, energy, and agricultural industries also drive consistent demand from in-house legal teams and the regional law firms that serve them.
Which Idaho cities have the most environmental attorney jobs?
Boise, Idaho Falls, and Nampa have the most environmental attorney openings in Idaho. Boise anchors the market as the state capital and home to major utilities, agribusiness headquarters, and state regulatory agencies, while Coeur d'Alene and Pocatello see demand tied to mining operations, timber interests, and regional federal land management offices.
Are there remote environmental attorney jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based legal fields because environmental work often requires on-site inspections, agency appearances, and coordination with field teams. About 18% of environmental attorney openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Legal research, compliance writing, and transactional document review are the tasks most frequently performed remotely within this practice area.
How can I get hired as an environmental attorney in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff attorney or associate role at a Boise-based natural resources or administrative law firm, where new admittees are regularly hired to support senior counsel on permitting and compliance matters. Idaho Power and state agencies such as the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality occasionally offer law clerk or regulatory analyst positions that transition into attorney roles. Candidates gain an edge by holding an active Idaho Bar license, completing a natural resources law clinic, or bringing adjacent experience as a paralegal or environmental consultant.
Where can I find and apply to environmental attorney jobs in Idaho?
