We’ve thrown out the old rules to focus on what truly matters: creating a kickass product that makes people say, 'Wow'. We don’t care about short-term wins; we build systems that stand the test of time. If you thrive in a culture of excellence without compromise and want to see your work have an immediate, remarkable impact, you’re in the right place.
Position Summary
We are looking for a developer-centric AI Engineer to join us in revolutionizing how we build software. You will be responsible for building the "engine that drives the engineers." By leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and intelligent automation, your goal is to make our engineering team 10x more productive. This is not a traditional "research" role. This is a highly technical, hands-on, execution-oriented position where you will build production-grade tools that integrate directly into our development and production lifecycle—from automated code reviews, intelligent documentation, and context-aware debugging. We maintain a flat, high-impact engineering culture where every engineer who joins our team carries the title of Member of Technical Staff.
What We Value:
- Impact: You will own significant responsibility and have total ownership over your work. We stay lean and efficient, so your work directly impacts the product we ship every day.
- Simplicity: Complexity is a waste of time here—we take pride in building things that just work.
- Hard Work: Forget the glamorous research papers. We prioritize the hard work it takes to achieve real-world clarity and accuracy. You will innovate relentlessly to push the boundaries of what’s possible in visual automation.
- Humility: No task is beneath you. Whether it's high-level architecture or grunt work to fix a bug, we check our egos at the door and get real work done.
- Ruthless Prioritization: If everything is on fire, nothing is. You will be expected to prioritize ruthlessly, cutting through distractions to focus on the most impactful product improvements.
- Customer Innovation: We are customer-centric, not customer-pleasing. You won’t bend to every client demand; you will let innovation drive the product forward to solve the real problems our users face.
- Efficiency: Meetings suck. We keep them short and only use them for alignment, giving you your time back to focus on real work.
You Will Be
- Owning Developer Productivity: Identifying bottlenecks in the Mashgin engineering workflow and architecting LLM-powered solutions to eliminate them.
- Interviewing engineers to understand their current process and accelerating them 10x.
- Building Intelligent Tooling: Implementing 0-to-1 systems for automated code refactoring, test generation, and context-aware documentation.
- Bridging Infrastructure and AI: Architecting and deploying LLM-powered services using both commercial APIs (like Claude) and open-source models.
- Scaling Workflows: Rethinking and recreating existing internal CI/CD and build processes to integrate AI-driven bug detection and security vulnerability assessments.
- Prototyping & Shipping: Building simple MVPs of developer tools and shipping them quickly to the team for immediate feedback and iteration.
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years relevant coding experience.
- B.S. or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience).
- Excellent knowledge of one or more of these languages: Python, Node.js, C++, Go, C#, Java.
- Comfortable learning new languages, libraries, and frameworks when the solution calls for it.
- Experience building production-ready code that’s used regularly by lots of people.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LSPs (Language Server Protocols) and IDE integration.
- Experience managing and optimizing large monolithic repositories, including build systems and version control workflows.
- Strong proficiency with SQL and database technologies.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Terraform, or similar).
What We Offer
- An opportunity to work on a small, multidisciplinary team with the potential to break new ground in many different industries.
- Excellent health, dental and vision insurance for you and your dependents.

Developer Experience Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a developer experience in California?
Developer experience roles in California do not require a state-issued license or certification, so the path runs through a combination of technical background and demonstrated product empathy. Most California employers expect candidates to hold a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, or to show equivalent hands-on experience through open source work, technical writing portfolios, or prior engineering roles. Transitioning from a software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical writing position is the most common route into the field here.
How much do developer experiences make in California?
Developer experiences in California earn a median of about $174,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,060 for the lowest 10% to over $272,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire developer experiences in California?
Employers hiring developer experiences in California right now include Adobe, Etched, and Mashgin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of developer tooling companies, cloud platforms, and API-first startups makes it one of the few states where dedicated developer experience teams are a standard part of the product organization rather than a specialized addition.
Which California cities have the most developer experience jobs?
San Jose, San Francisco, and Mountain View have the most developer experience openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose dominate because of the concentration of enterprise software companies and API-first startups headquartered in the Bay Area, while Los Angeles reflects the growing presence of media-tech, fintech, and consumer platform companies that have built out developer-facing products and need dedicated experience teams.
Are there remote developer experience jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 15% of developer experience openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves writing, tooling, and async collaboration rather than on-site presence. The parts of the role most commonly done fully remote are documentation, SDK development, and community management, while developer advocacy that involves conference or customer engagement tends to require some in-person availability.
How can I get hired as a developer experience in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a technical adjacent role such as software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical writing into a junior developer advocate or developer experience associate position. Large California technology employers including Salesforce and Google run early-career advocate and developer relations programs that accept candidates without dedicated developer experience titles. Building a public portfolio of tutorials, code samples, or API integration guides posted on a personal site or open source repository significantly strengthens an application in lieu of direct title experience.
Where can I find and apply to developer experience jobs in California?
You can find and apply to developer experience jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
