Developer Jobs in Jacksonville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a developer job in Jacksonville?
Focus your search on Jacksonville's strongest hiring sectors: financial services firms in Southside, defense and government contractors near the Naval Air Station, healthcare systems, and logistics technology companies tied to the port. Candidates who know cloud platforms, Java, or Python and can point to deployed projects tend to stand out. Networking through local tech meetups and the Jacksonville Tech community also gives you a concrete edge over remote applicants.
Which companies hire developers in Jacksonville?
Companies currently hiring developers in Jacksonville include RF-SMART, Aperia, and Kemper, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Jacksonville's employer mix skews toward large financial institutions, regional healthcare networks, defense contractors, and insurance companies, all of which run substantial in-house engineering teams.
Are there remote developer jobs in Jacksonville?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type. About 83% of developer openings tied to Jacksonville are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly remote-compatible software development work has become. Full-stack, back-end, and cloud engineering roles in Jacksonville's fintech and insurance sectors tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while on-site work is more common at defense contractors and hospital systems.
How can I get a developer job in Jacksonville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Jacksonville is targeting junior or associate developer roles at the city's mid-size fintech and insurance firms, which tend to run structured onboarding programs and hire early-career candidates more consistently than larger national contractors. Building a portfolio with relevant projects, contributing to open-source work, and pursuing certifications in AWS or Azure all strengthen an application. Local staffing firms that specialize in technology placements also place junior developers with Jacksonville employers on contract-to-hire arrangements.
