Development Manager Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development manager job in Pittsburgh?
Target Pittsburgh's strongest hiring sectors: healthcare systems anchored in Oakland, technology firms in the Strip District, and the city's large nonprofit community. Candidates with experience managing cross-functional teams in one of these verticals have a clear edge locally. Building connections through Pittsburgh-based professional associations and community development organizations also opens doors that online applications alone often don't.
Which companies hire development managers in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh development manager roles are posted by GNC, YWCA, and Expedient and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's mix of major health systems, established tech employers, and mission-driven nonprofits means openings appear across a range of organization sizes and funding structures.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though it depends heavily on the role type: development managers tied to fundraising, software, or analytics work tend to be more remote-compatible, while those overseeing construction or facilities projects are almost always on-site. About 67% of development manager openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among Pittsburgh's technology and foundation-funded employers.
How can I get a development manager job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is moving up from a coordinator or associate role within one of the city's large nonprofit or healthcare organizations, which frequently promote from within. Pittsburgh's community development corporations and foundations also hire entry-level development staff and offer structured pathways toward management. Demonstrating grant writing results or donor stewardship experience specific to Pittsburgh's philanthropic community strengthens any application significantly.
Which industries hire the most development managers in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh development manager roles concentrate in Science & Research and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's legacy as a hub for healthcare research, higher education, and an expanding tech sector means steady demand across those verticals regardless of broader economic conditions.
