DevOps Engineer Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops engineer in Montana?
DevOps engineering in Montana has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so entry is credential- and experience-driven. Most Montana employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, though candidates with associate degrees or bootcamp backgrounds who hold industry certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Certified Kubernetes Administrator are competitive. Building a portfolio of pipeline and infrastructure-as-code projects and contributing to open-source repositories strengthens any application significantly.
Which companies hire devops engineers in Montana?
Employers hiring devops engineers in Montana right now include CVS Health, Aon, and IMEG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's public sector, healthcare networks, and technology services firms are among the most consistent sources of openings in the state.
Which Montana cities have the most devops engineer jobs?
Bozeman, Helena, and Billings lead Montana for devops engineer openings. Billings drives volume through its concentration of healthcare systems and energy-sector IT, Missoula adds demand from the University of Montana and regional technology firms, and Helena produces openings largely from state government agencies and contractors serving Montana's public-sector infrastructure.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in Montana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 38% of devops engineer openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the fact that the work is almost entirely cloud-based and toolchain-driven. Roles focused on cloud infrastructure management, pipeline automation, and monitoring are the most consistently offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a devops engineer in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems administrator or IT operations role, which several Montana employers use as a pipeline for devops talent. The State of Montana's Department of Administration and healthcare systems such as Providence Health and Billings Clinic regularly post associate-level IT positions that transition into devops responsibilities. Earning a cloud certification before applying, building a public GitHub portfolio of infrastructure-as-code work, and targeting roles titled IT operations analyst or systems engineer are concrete ways to make that move without prior devops job titles.
Where can I find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to devops engineer jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, identify the roles that fit your experience level and specialization, and apply directly to the ones that match.
