DevOps Engineer Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops engineer in North Carolina?
DevOps engineering in North Carolina has no state-issued license or exam, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most employers in the Research Triangle and Charlotte look for a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, though a strong portfolio of automation projects and cloud certifications from AWS, Microsoft, or Google can substitute. Entry candidates often start in system administration, software QA, or IT operations roles before moving into dedicated devops positions.
Which companies hire devops engineers in North Carolina?
North Carolina devops engineer roles are posted by Northrop Grumman, GovCIO, and Booz Allen Hamilton and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Carolina's concentration of financial services firms in Charlotte and enterprise technology companies in the Research Triangle means devops openings appear at both large Fortune 500 employers and fast-growing regional technology companies throughout the year.
Which North Carolina cities have the most devops engineer jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and Morrisville account for the largest share of devops engineer openings in North Carolina. The Research Triangle anchors demand through its dense cluster of technology companies, university spin-offs, and government contractors, while Charlotte's financial services industry drives consistent cloud and infrastructure hiring, and secondary markets benefit from the presence of manufacturing technology and logistics companies expanding their engineering teams.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 44% of devops engineer openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how thoroughly the role has shifted toward cloud-based tooling and distributed team workflows. Pipeline management, infrastructure-as-code authoring, and monitoring configuration are the functions most commonly performed fully remote, while on-call production support roles tend to require at least a hybrid arrangement near a major metro.
How can I get hired as a devops engineer in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an adjacent IT or software role at one of North Carolina's large employers. Companies like Red Hat in Raleigh and major financial institutions in Charlotte regularly hire associate site reliability engineers and junior platform engineers who transition from system administration, software testing, or IT helpdesk backgrounds. Earning an AWS Cloud Practitioner or Azure Fundamentals certification and building a public GitHub repository of Terraform or Ansible projects gives candidates a concrete edge when applying to these entry-level openings.
Where can I find and apply to devops engineer jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate lists current devops engineer openings in North Carolina, updated continuously so you see roles that are actively accepting applications. Search the listings for positions that match your experience level and preferred location, whether that is the Research Triangle, Charlotte, or a remote arrangement, and apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
