Job Title: IT Capacity Manager
Location: Charlotte, NC
Position Overview
Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior IT Capacity Manager/Portfolio Lead to provide end to end capacity performance and resiliency leadership across a major Line of Business within Global Technology Operations.
This senior individual contributor role ensures that critical banking platforms spanning distributed systems VMware ESX and internal external cloud platforms maintain the capacity scalability and resiliency required to support the banks operational regulatory and customer commitments.
The manager must bring 15 years of deep technical experience including Business Continuity Resiliency/Disaster Recovery (DR), capacity planning, system design, infrastructure architecture, and capacity management experience in hardware reclamation ensuring efficient lifecycle management, decommissioning, and reuse of compute, storage, and network assets across data centers.
This role aligns to ITIL-based service management framework and carries significant technical authority though it includes no direct people-management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Hybrid Infrastructure Capacity Leadership
- Lead capacity planning and performance engineering across:
- Distributed compute platforms Linux/Windows clustered systems high-throughput workloads
- VMware ESX infrastructure clusters hosts vSAN HA/DRS resource pools
- Internal cloud/container platforms Kubernetes OpenShift microservices
- External cloud environments AWS Azure GCP PaaS/SaaS
- Use enterprise observability telemetry and APM tools to identify saturation points, performance bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities
Resiliency Disaster Recovery Capacity Planning
- Ensure capacity sufficiency for client resiliency strategies including:
- Active-active and active-passive architectures
- Multi data center failover and cross site workload mobility
- RTO/RPO alignment and regulatory resiliency requirements
- Storage replication, cross site network capacity, and failover readiness
- Ability to model DR environments can sustain full LOB workloads during failover events, regulatory testing, and crisis scenarios
System Design Infrastructure Architecture Influence
- Apply strong system design and infrastructure architecture expertise to guide:
- Platform scalability and performance engineering
- High availability and resiliency patterns
- Cloud modernization and hybrid architecture decisions
- Infrastructure lifecycle and capacity investment planning
- Business volume collection and workload characterization
- Influence architecture and engineering teams to embed capacity, resiliency, and performance considerations into platform designs
Forecasting Modeling Demand Management
- Build multi-year capacity forecasts aligned to business growth, regulatory drivers, and technology modernization initiatives
- Develop predictive models for compute, storage, network, and container resource consumption
- Translate business demand into infrastructure requirements and capital planning recommendations
Hardware Reclamation Lifecycle Capacity Management
- Lead capacity planning for hardware reclamation including:
- Identifying underutilized, end of life, or decommission eligible assets
- Partnering with data center operations to reclaim, repurpose, or retire hardware
- Ensuring reclaimed capacity is reintegrated into planning models
- Supporting lifecycle optimization, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives
- Maintain accurate capacity inventories and ensure reclamation activities align with client asset governance and risk controls
Performance Engineering Risk Management
- Identify capacity risks, systemic constraints, and performance degradation patterns across hybrid environments
- Drive remediation plans with engineering, operations, and platform teams to maintain service stability and meet client resiliency standards
- Support incident and problem management with deep technical analysis of capacity related events
Governance Reporting ITIL Alignment
- Own the ITIL aligned Capacity Performance Management process for the assigned LOB
- Produce executive-ready dashboards, risk summaries, and capacity health reports for senior technology leadership
- Ensure compliance with regulatory audit and operational risk requirements
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership No Direct Reports
- Serve as the capacity authority for the LOB influencing engineering, architecture, resiliency, and cloud strategy decisions
- Partner with Finance, Enterprise Architecture, and Technology Operations on cost optimization, rightsizing, reclamation planning, and lifecycle management
- Provide technical mentorship to analysts and engineers through expertise, not administrative oversight
- Agile experience and lead a mature agile team

Benefits
Compensation range: $80,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year
