About the Team & Role

We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead Platform Engineering, a small team of highly senior (Staff+) engineers who build and operate the infrastructure and core services powering Honor's Care Platform, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and developer tooling, reliability and operations, security foundations, and shared architecture.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll own Platform's strategic roadmap and day-to-day execution, while staying technical enough to set direction, challenge your engineers' thinking, and know when to go deep yourself versus lean on their expertise.

What we are looking for in a candidate:

• 8+ years of professional software/platform engineering experience, including at least 3+ years directly managing engineers at Senior or Staff level within a platform, infrastructure, or SRE organization at a product-centric company.
• Enough hands-on depth to be technically credible with Staff+ engineers: comfortable reasoning about cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform, or similar), Kubernetes-based production systems, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar), and service-to-service architecture even where you are not the deepest expert in a given domain.
• A track record of creating leverage from highly autonomous senior engineers through context, challenge, feedback, and development not task management. Comfortable managing people with greater domain expertise than your own.
• Experience translating company and engineering priorities into a coherent platform roadmap: distinguishing systemic problems from one-off requests, protecting foundational investment, and making the resulting tradeoffs and opportunity costs visible to your manager and stakeholders.
• Experience balancing planned roadmap work against KTLO, incidents, and unplanned operational demand — establishing ownership and lightweight process without becoming the team's project manager.
• Comfortable partnering with senior technical ICs as complementary leaders rather than competing for authority or abdicating technical judgment to them.
• Strong written and verbal communication, tailored to a variety of audiences from your engineers, to your own manager, to domain teams across engineering.
• A strategic thinker with a product-first approach and customer obsession, comfortable making nuanced tradeoffs about which technical investments are appropriate at the company's current stage.

Some, or all, of these are true:

• You've managed a newly-formed or recently-restructured team, including ramping new senior hires into ownership.
• You work at, or have worked at, a technology startup and are familiar with the challenges of evolving platform maturity.
• You have first-hand experience defining or evolving the boundary between a platform team and the domain teams it serves — including when domain teams should self-serve versus engage platform directly.
• Knowledge of infrastructure security review and compliance frameworks.

Honor is remote-friendly! We're hiring across the U.S., with an entirely virtual interview and onboarding process. Most of our positions are remote/work from home and do not require permanent relocation.
