Devops Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops manager in Maryland?
The standard path into a devops manager role in Maryland starts with a degree in computer science, information technology, or a related engineering discipline, followed by several years of hands-on experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or systems reliability work. Maryland's market is heavily shaped by federal contracting, so many employers also expect candidates to be eligible for a security clearance. Professional certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or CKA strengthen applications significantly.
How much do devops managers make in Maryland?
Devops managers in Maryland earn a median of about $159,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $87,400 for the lowest 10% to over $211,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire devops managers in Maryland?
Employers hiring devops managers in Maryland right now include Brighter Day Services, X-Energy, and Abacus Technology, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's federal contracting ecosystem means that large defense and technology services firms are consistently among the most active hirers in this role.
Which Maryland cities have the most devops manager jobs?
Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Towson have the most devops manager openings in Maryland. The concentration reflects the state's federal contracting corridor: Bethesda and Annapolis Junction sit close to NSA and intelligence community campuses, Columbia anchors a dense cluster of mid-market technology firms, and Baltimore draws both healthcare IT employers and financial services organizations that maintain significant engineering headcount.
Are there remote devops manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields, because devops manager work is fundamentally a cloud and pipeline discipline that travels well outside a physical office. About 75% of devops manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though roles requiring an active security clearance are far more likely to mandate on-site work at a cleared facility. Pipeline automation, monitoring, and cloud architecture work are the responsibilities most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a devops manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a DevOps or site reliability engineer role rather than a management position directly. In Maryland, large federal contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos run associate and entry-level engineering programs that build the technical foundation the manager role requires. Building a portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects on GitHub and earning a recognized cloud certification, such as AWS Certified Developer or the Google Associate Cloud Engineer credential, signals readiness. From a senior individual contributor role, the step into team lead or manager typically follows naturally within a few years.
Where can I find and apply to devops manager jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to devops manager jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your background.
