Devops Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops manager in Washington?
The devops manager role in Washington has no state-issued license or certification requirement, so entry follows a technical career path. Most Washington employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering paired with several years of hands-on devops or systems engineering work before moving into management. Certifications from AWS, Azure, or the Cloud Native Computing Foundation strengthen candidacy considerably, and demonstrating experience with large-scale cloud infrastructure is the most consistent differentiator across Washington listings.
How much do devops managers make in Washington?
Devops managers in Washington earn a median of about $164,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,990 for the lowest 10% to over $272,470 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire devops managers in Washington?
Employers hiring devops managers in Washington right now include Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and lululemon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's concentration of major cloud, aerospace, and enterprise software headquarters means devops manager demand here tends to be sustained year-round rather than project-driven.
Which Washington cities have the most devops manager jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Mercer Island have the most devops manager openings in Washington. Seattle drives the largest share because it is home to the global headquarters of Amazon and major Microsoft campuses, while Bellevue and Redmond on the Eastside host dense clusters of cloud and enterprise software teams that generate consistent devops leadership demand.
Are there remote devops manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. Devops manager work is largely software and process-oriented, making it well-suited to remote arrangements. About 20% of devops manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly the state's tech employers have adopted flexible work policies. The parts of the role most likely to stay fully remote are pipeline oversight, toolchain strategy, and cross-team coordination.
How can I get hired as a devops manager in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior individual-contributor devops or site reliability engineer role into a first-line manager position at a mid-size Washington technology or cloud services company. Employers like those in Seattle's cloud and SaaS sector regularly hire engineers into lead or tech-lead roles that carry informal management responsibilities and serve as a bridge to full management titles. Earning an AWS or Azure solutions architect certification and building a portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects adds concrete credibility when competing for those bridge roles.
Where can I find and apply to devops manager jobs in Washington?
