Senior Devops Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior devops engineer in Washington?
Senior devops engineer roles in Washington do not require a state-issued license or registration. The typical path is a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, followed by several years of hands-on experience in infrastructure, platform, or systems engineering roles. Washington employers place significant weight on cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or Microsoft Azure Administrator, which align with the dominant cloud platforms used by major employers in the Seattle and Redmond corridors.
How much do senior devops engineers make in Washington?
Senior devops engineers in Washington earn a median of about $166,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,810 for the lowest 10% to over $255,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior devops engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring senior devops engineers in Washington right now include Amazon, Pacvue, and T-Mobile, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's concentration of cloud-native technology companies and large enterprise headquarters means demand for senior devops engineers remains consistent across both well-established firms and growth-stage organizations in the greater Seattle area.
Which Washington cities have the most senior devops engineer jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue account for the most senior devops engineer openings in Washington. Seattle drives the largest share of demand as home to Amazon and a dense cluster of technology companies, while Redmond and Bellevue anchor substantial hiring through Microsoft and the enterprise software ecosystem that has built up around it, pulling strong devops demand into the Eastside corridor as well.
Are there remote senior devops engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of senior devops engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how thoroughly infrastructure and platform engineering can be performed without an on-site presence. Pipeline management, cloud configuration, and monitoring work are the areas most commonly offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a senior devops engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a systems administrator, cloud support engineer, or junior infrastructure role, which several large Washington technology employers use as a pipeline into devops teams. Amazon and Microsoft both run associate cloud and technical program roles in the Seattle and Redmond areas that provide hands-on exposure to devops tooling. Earning an entry-level AWS or Azure certification before applying gives candidates a concrete credential that Washington hiring managers recognize as a signal of readiness, particularly for those transitioning from IT operations or software QA roles.
Where can I find and apply to senior devops engineer jobs in Washington?
