Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Your Australian bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or engineering establishes the specialty occupation requirement. If your degree is in a tangential field, document how your coursework directly supports application lifecycle management to strengthen E-3 visa eligibility.
Target employers with active LCA histories
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Applications Manager or IT management roles. Prior LCA filings confirm the employer already treats these positions as qualifying specialty occupations.
Distinguish the role scope in your offer letter
Applications Manager titles can blur into general management, which creates specialty occupation risk during consular review. Ask your employer to specify that the role requires a degree in a specific technical discipline, not just any bachelor's degree.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission to the DOL and prepare your consulate documentation. The LCA must be certified before your visa interview, and the sequencing matters.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
Applications Manager roles often attract scrutiny at Australian consulates because the seniority level can imply long-term settlement plans. Bring documentation of your Australian ties, such as property ownership, family, or professional registrations, to support nonimmigrant intent.
Negotiate employer-side filing before you resign
The E-3 requires your employer to file the LCA with the DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Confirm the employer has an authorized signatory and HR process in place to file promptly, so you're not waiting weeks after accepting an offer.
E-3 Visa Applications Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Applications Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Applications Manager roles at U.S. employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Searching by role and visa type filters out positions where sponsorship is unlikely, so you're not spending time on applications that will stall at the offer stage when you disclose your visa requirements.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Applications Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or software engineering. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field can fail the specialty occupation test during consular review. The job description and offer letter should clearly state the required discipline.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Applications Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap, so Australian professionals can apply any time of year after receiving an offer. The H-1B visa cap is 85,000 per fiscal year and requires a lottery registration. For Applications Manager roles, the specialty occupation standard is the same under both visas, but the E-3 path is significantly faster and more predictable.
Can I change employers or get promoted while on an E-3 as an Applications Manager?
Changing employers requires a new LCA and a new E-3 visa, since the visa is tied to a specific employer and role. A significant promotion that changes your job duties or title may also require an amended LCA. You can work for the new employer once the new LCA is certified and you have a valid visa reflecting the new position.
