Frame your credentials for U.S. specialty occupation
Your Australian three-year bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but document the equivalency explicitly. A credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body strengthens your LCA and consular application for data governance roles.
Target employers with active data governance programs
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed LCAs under SOC code 11-3021 (Computer and Information Systems Managers). Employers with recent filings already understand the E-3 visa process and won't need educating at the offer stage.
Clarify your role satisfies specialty occupation early
Data governance sits at the intersection of policy, compliance, and technical architecture. Some hiring managers classify it as a management generalist role. Confirm with the employer that the position requires a specific degree field before the LCA is filed with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and paperwork
Once you have a written offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, and sequencing errors are the most common cause of delays.
Negotiate start dates around consulate appointment availability
E-3 consulate appointments at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth have varying wait times. Build at least four to six weeks between your offer acceptance and your target start date to account for LCA certification time and appointment scheduling without losing the offer.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent scrutiny at the interview
Data governance roles often attract senior candidates who also hold permanent residency pathways. Consular officers may probe ties to Australia and future plans. Have documentation of your current Australian commitments ready alongside your employment offer and LCA.
E-3 Visa Data Governance Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Data Governance Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Unlike general job boards, it filters for employers familiar with the E-3 visa process. Data Governance Manager positions in financial services, healthcare, and technology appear regularly, particularly at companies with established compliance and data management functions.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Data Governance Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as information management, computer science, data science, or business analytics. Roles framed around policy coordination or stakeholder management without a defined degree requirement can face scrutiny, so the job description should clearly state the educational prerequisites.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Data Governance Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap that affects most applicants, meaning you can apply at any time of year once you have a job offer. The H-1B visa requires lottery selection in April with a start date no earlier than October 1. For Australian nationals in data governance, the E-3 is a faster, more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I change employers after starting a Data Governance Manager role on an E-3?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new LCA filed with DOL and a new visa stamp if you travel internationally. You can begin working for a new employer once the new LCA is certified and the employer has filed the supporting paperwork, but you cannot port your existing E-3 status to a new employer the way an H-1B allows under AC21 portability rules.
