Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Engineering Technician
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering technology are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before your first interview to avoid delays during LCA filing.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filings
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have filed LCAs for engineering technician roles. Employers who have sponsored before understand the process, which cuts negotiation time and reduces the chance of a withdrawn offer.
Confirm the job posting specifies a degree requirement
E-3 specialty occupation status depends on the role requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. If a posting says 'degree preferred' rather than 'required,' flag this before accepting an offer, DOL may reject the LCA if the requirement isn't clearly stated.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have a written offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This covers DOL submission, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment support so your employer doesn't need to hire outside immigration counsel.
Negotiate your start date around consulate wait times
E-3 consulate appointments in Sydney and Melbourne can book out several weeks. When negotiating your offer letter, build in at least six weeks between signing and your proposed U.S. start date to avoid having to push back your first day.
Prepare technical documentation that maps your role to a specialty occupation
Consular officers sometimes question whether technician roles meet the E-3 specialty occupation standard. Bring your employer's job description, your degree transcripts, and a brief written statement explaining how your specific electrical engineering qualifications directly support the duties listed.

Find Electrical Engineering Technician JobsElectrical Engineering Technician E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Electrical Engineering Technician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Electrical Engineering Technician roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where sponsorship was never an option. Migrate Mate surfaces positions matched to your E-3 eligibility as an Australian national.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Electrical Engineering Technician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the role must demonstrably require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering technology or a directly related field. Roles that accept any technical degree or substitue extensive experience for a degree may not qualify. Your employer's job description needs to specify the degree requirement explicitly for the DOL to certify the LCA.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Electrical Engineering Technicians?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any point in the year and receive a two-year renewable visa without competing against tens of thousands of other applicants. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot annual cap with a randomised selection process. For Australian nationals in engineering technician roles, the E-3 is a significantly more predictable path.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 as an Electrical Engineering Technician?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp at a consulate before starting work with them, there's no portability provision like there is with H-1B under AC21. Plan for at least a four to six week gap between your last day with the old employer and your first day with the new one if a consulate trip is required.
