E-3 Visa Tax Intern Jobs
Tax Intern roles in U.S. public accounting and corporate tax teams qualify as E-3 specialty occupations when the position requires a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Australian nationals can pursue E-3 visa sponsorship without competing in the H-1B lottery, making internship-to-full-time pathways at Big Four firms and mid-market practices genuinely accessible.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Tax Intern
Frame your Australian accounting credentials precisely
A three-year Australian bachelor's in accounting is accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. When submitting your resume, note the degree equivalency explicitly so hiring managers don't incorrectly flag your qualification as insufficient.
Target firms with existing LCA filing history
Big Four firms and national mid-market practices file Labor Condition Applications regularly and have established sponsorship workflows. Smaller boutique firms may be open to sponsoring but may lack in-house experience with the E-3 LCA process, which adds friction.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters tax intern roles by employers actively open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to positions where the hiring team has never heard of the visa. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer.
Confirm the internship is paid before pursuing sponsorship
The E-3 requires your employer to pay the DOL prevailing wage for the role and location. Unpaid internships don't satisfy the E-3 wage requirement, so verify the compensation structure with HR before the firm begins the LCA filing process.
Time your offer acceptance around LCA processing windows
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, but your employer needs that certification before you can book your consulate appointment. Build at least three weeks of runway between your offer acceptance and your intended U.S. start date to avoid scheduling pressure.
Clarify the internship's specialty occupation standing upfront
Not every tax intern role automatically qualifies as a specialty occupation. The position must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Ask HR whether the role is classified under a degree-specific job description before investing time in the application process.

Find Tax Intern JobsTax Intern E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Tax Intern jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search tax intern roles filtered by employers open to E-3 sponsorship. Most generic job boards don't flag visa sponsorship type, so you'll waste time applying to firms unfamiliar with the E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already on the table, which is particularly useful for internship-length positions where firms have limited time to onboard a new visa process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Tax Intern role qualify as a specialty occupation under the E-3?
Yes, provided the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, taxation, or a closely related field. If the posting says 'degree preferred' rather than 'required,' the specialty occupation standard may not be met, and USCIS could question the visa classification at your consulate interview. Confirm the degree requirement is explicit in the offer letter.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Tax Intern positions?
The E-3 has a 10,500-visa annual cap that has never been exhausted, meaning there's no lottery and no random exclusion. The H-1B runs an oversubscribed lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, and cap-subject petitions can only be filed once a year. For an internship-length role, the E-3 is the only realistic work visa pathway because H-1B timelines and lottery uncertainty make it impractical for short-term positions.
Can I convert a Tax Intern E-3 to a full-time E-3 with the same employer?
Yes. The E-3 isn't tied to a specific role, only to a qualifying employer and specialty occupation. If the firm offers you a full-time tax associate position after your internship, your employer files a new LCA reflecting the full-time role and wage level, and you attend a new consulate appointment for a fresh two-year E-3 stamp. There's no cap constraint limiting this transition.
