Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Tax Specialist
Get your Australian credentials evaluated first
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in accounting or taxation satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement, but have a credential evaluation ready before applying. U.S. employers and consular officers want written confirmation your degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG) for employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for tax roles. A company that has sponsored tax professionals before already understands the LCA process and won't stall your offer over paperwork uncertainty.
Clarify your CPA status during interviews
Australian CA or CPA qualifications don't automatically transfer to U.S. CPA licensure. Address this proactively by explaining what your credential covers and whether you're pursuing NASBA exam eligibility, so employers don't misread your qualifications as a gap.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission and visa paperwork so the process stays on track from offer acceptance to appointment.
Confirm the job offer specifies a specialty occupation
Your offer letter must describe duties requiring a tax-specific degree, not just a general business qualification. If the role description says 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required in accounting or taxation,' ask HR to revise it before the LCA is filed.
Negotiate your start date around LCA certification timing
DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days, but your consulate appointment availability adds more time. Build at least four to six weeks into your agreed start date so neither you nor your employer is forced into a premium processing situation.

Find Tax Specialist JobsTax Specialist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Tax Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Tax Specialist roles where U.S. employers are open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not cold-filtering a general job board for Australian-only opportunities. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, which makes sponsorship more accessible than most Australian professionals expect from a U.S. work visa.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Tax Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as accounting, finance, or taxation. Roles focused on corporate tax, international tax, or compliance analysis consistently meet the specialty occupation standard. Generic financial roles where any business degree qualifies can be harder to support, so the job description matters.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Tax Specialist roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual numerical cap, so you can apply any time of year after receiving a job offer. The H-1B requires registration in a lottery held once per year, with selection rates that have fallen significantly over recent fiscal years. For Australian tax professionals with a qualifying offer, the E-3 is a direct path with no random selection involved.
Can I switch employers while working in the U.S. on an E-3 as a Tax Specialist?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new E-3 visa stamp before you start with the new employer. Unlike the H-1B, E-3 status does not carry portability protections, so you can't begin work at the new company while the paperwork is still processing. Plan the transition timeline with your new employer before giving notice.
