About Nen Creative
Nen Creative partners with tech startups to bring bold ideas to life, creating the brands, products, and stories that fuel their growth. Since 2022, we've partnered with some of the world's top founders and institutions, including Amazon, Pear VC, Andreessen Horowitz, Mercor, Context Inc, Pylon, Listen Labs, Tech Week, Console, Mantis VC, Daydream, Flora, and more. We're growing fast and looking for great people to join us.
About the Opportunity
We're looking for a sharp, story-driven Editor to join our growing team. You'll cut a wide range of work across our roster of tech startup clients, from launch films and brand stories to product videos, social cutdowns, and event recaps. You'll partner closely with our directors and creative leads to take footage from raw to finished and shape the pacing, tone, and feel of each piece. You'll own the cut from selects through final delivery, working across multiple projects at any given time.
Responsibilities
- Edit a wide variety of video content, primarily launch films/commercials, as well as product videos, testimonials, mini-docs, and social cutdowns.
- Translate creative direction and scripts into compelling cuts that hit the intended tone, pacing, and story.
- Partner closely with directors and creative leads from selects through picture lock, iterating quickly on feedback.
- Handle sound design and basic mix work, including music selection, SFX, and dialogue cleanup.
- Color grade footage to match the look and feel of each project.
- Create simple motion graphics, lower thirds, titles, and basic VFX as needed.
- Organize and maintain project files, media, and version control across multiple active projects.
- Manage your own timelines and flag risks early when scope, footage, or schedule shifts.
- Support delivery and asset prep for final handoff, including different cuts, aspect ratios, and platform specs.
- Stay current on editing trends, techniques, and tools that can elevate our work.
What We're Looking For
- Based in the Bay Area (preferred).
- 3 to 5 years of experience preferred as an editor, ideally on commercial, brand, or documentary work.
- Strong reel that demonstrates story sensibility, pacing, and range across styles.
- Expert in Premiere Pro; comfortable in After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools.
- Solid eye for color and ear for sound design and music.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and clean project management habits.
- Calm, proactive, and dependable on tight turnarounds.
- A clear communicator who takes feedback well and partners closely with directors.
- Takes ownership of the cut and pushes the work forward, not just executing notes.
Why Join Nen
- Be part of a small, fast-growing creative studio trusted by world-class startups and investors.
- Work directly with the partners and creative leadership on ambitious, high-impact projects.
- Cut a wide variety of work across founder-led brands, VC firms, and major tech companies.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), PTO, and company holidays.
- Salary range $65,000 to $100,000.

Editor Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a editor in California?
Becoming an editor in California typically starts with a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or communications, which is the baseline credential most California employers require. California has no state-issued license or registration for editors, so hiring decisions rest on portfolio strength and demonstrated editing experience. Many California candidates build credentials through university newspapers, literary journals at UC or CSU campuses, or internships at media companies and publishers based in Los Angeles or the Bay Area before moving into staff roles.
Which companies hire editors in California?
Employers hiring editors in California right now include BKF Engineers, Nexstar Media Group, and TikTok, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of streaming services, major tech companies, and large university systems means editorial demand is distributed across a wider range of industries than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most editor jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose have the most editor openings in California, reflecting where the state's largest editorial employers are headquartered. Los Angeles dominates because of its entertainment and media industry, San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area draw demand from tech companies and digital publishers, and San Diego sees consistent openings tied to its life sciences sector and academic institutions.
Are there remote editor jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 31% of editor openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that editing is largely desk-based work that translates well to distributed teams. Copy editing, content editing, and technical editing roles for software or digital media are the most consistently remote, while on-site roles tend to be found in broadcast, film post-production, and academic publishing environments.
How can I get hired as a editor in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio through unpaid or low-paid writing and editing work, then applying to editorial assistant or junior editor roles at California-based publishers, media companies, or content agencies. UC and CSU campus newspapers and literary journals are practical starting points. Large California employers in tech and entertainment often post associate editor or content coordinator openings that serve as entry points, and candidates who can show a clean portfolio of edited work, along with proficiency in a recognized style guide, stand out even without formal job history.
Where can I find and apply to editor jobs in California?
You can find and apply to editor jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
