Electrical Design Technician Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical design technician in Oklahoma?
Most Oklahoma employers require an associate degree in electrical technology, electronics engineering technology, or a closely related field from an accredited program such as those offered at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology or Tulsa Community College. Oklahoma does not require a state-issued license specifically for electrical design technicians, but employers in the energy and aerospace sectors often expect familiarity with NEC standards and relevant CAD tools. Earning a certification from organizations such as NICET can strengthen your candidacy.
How much do electrical design technicians make in Oklahoma?
Electrical design technicians in Oklahoma earn a median of about $80,880 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,010 for the lowest 10% to over $112,260 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical design technicians in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring electrical design technicians in Oklahoma include Saber Power Services, HDR, and CEC Facilities, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's concentration of energy utilities, aerospace manufacturers, and defense contractors makes it one of the more consistent states for this role across multiple industries.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most electrical design technician jobs?
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Muskogee account for the largest share of electrical design technician openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City's size and its mix of utility companies, government contractors, and manufacturing facilities drive the bulk of demand, while Tulsa's aerospace and industrial base, anchored by employers like Spirit AeroSystems and NORDAM, sustains steady hiring in the northeastern part of the state.
Are there remote electrical design technician jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're limited. Electrical design technician work is largely hands-on or requires access to CAD systems and engineering teams on-site, which limits remote options compared to purely analytical roles. About 21% of electrical design technician openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to involve drafting, schematic review, or documentation tasks that don't require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a electrical design technician in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an associate degree in electrical technology at a program like OSU Institute of Technology or Tulsa Community College, which often includes internship placements with regional energy and manufacturing employers. Large Oklahoma employers in the utility and aerospace sectors, including OGE Energy and Spirit AeroSystems, hire entry-level drafting technicians and junior CAD operators who work under licensed engineers. Starting as an electrical apprentice, wiring technician, or facilities maintenance assistant gives candidates the hands-on background that moves them into design support roles.
Where can I find and apply to electrical design technician jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to electrical design technician jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly through each listing.
