Mechanical Engineer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mechanical engineer in Oklahoma?
You become a licensed mechanical engineer in Oklahoma by earning an accredited engineering degree, gaining qualifying experience, and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams administered through NCEES. Licensure is granted by the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Many Oklahoma employers in aerospace and energy require or strongly prefer a Professional Engineer license for roles involving design authority or client-facing work.
How much do mechanical engineers make in Oklahoma?
Mechanical engineers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,070 for the lowest 10% to over $136,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mechanical engineers in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring mechanical engineers in Oklahoma include AAON, Rimkus, and IMEG, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's concentration of aerospace primes, defense contractors, and midstream energy operators means mechanical engineering demand is distributed across both the Oklahoma City metro and the Tulsa industrial corridor.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most mechanical engineer jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Pryor lead Oklahoma for mechanical engineer openings. Oklahoma City dominates due to Tinker Air Force Base and the surrounding defense and aerospace supply chain, while Tulsa's strength in energy infrastructure and pipeline engineering drives consistent demand there, and Lawton sees activity tied to Fort Sill and its contractor ecosystem.
Are there remote mechanical engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're rare. About 39% of mechanical engineer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, site-dependent nature of most mechanical engineering work in aerospace and energy. The roles most likely to carry remote or hybrid flexibility are those focused on simulation, finite element analysis, or technical documentation rather than physical testing or equipment installation.
How can I get hired as a mechanical engineer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for co-op or new-graduate rotational programs at large Oklahoma defense and aerospace contractors, where structured onboarding is built for candidates straight out of school. Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma maintain recruiting relationships with employers like Spirit AeroSystems and Tinker-area contractors. Roles titled junior mechanical engineer, engineering technician, or design drafter are common lateral entry points. Earning your Fundamentals of Engineering certification while still in school gives your application a concrete edge over candidates who haven't started the licensure process.
Where can I find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current Oklahoma openings across industries including aerospace, energy, and defense manufacturing. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
