Electrical Systems Engineer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical systems engineer in Oklahoma?
Start with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, which is the foundation most Oklahoma employers require. After gaining qualifying work experience, you can pursue licensure through the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. A PE license is not always required for entry-level roles but becomes important for signing off on designs and advancing in Oklahoma's aerospace, utility, or defense sectors.
How much do electrical systems engineers make in Oklahoma?
Electrical systems engineers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $107,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,060 for the lowest 10% to over $187,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical systems engineers in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring electrical systems engineers in Oklahoma include Saber Power Services, Interstates Companies, and HDR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's aerospace manufacturing base around Tulsa and its defense installations near Lawton make it one of the more consistent states for engineering demand outside the major coastal markets.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most electrical systems engineer jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Muskogee have the most electrical systems engineer openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City leads because of its concentration of energy utilities, defense contractors, and state government infrastructure projects, while Tulsa's aerospace and advanced manufacturing cluster, anchored by companies like American Airlines and NORDAM, drives consistent engineering hiring there.
Are there remote electrical systems engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're limited. Electrical systems engineering is largely a hands-on discipline that involves site visits, lab work, and hardware integration, which restricts full-time remote arrangements. About 23% of electrical systems engineer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to cover design review, system architecture, or simulation-heavy work that can be done off-site.
How can I get hired as a electrical systems engineer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an internship or new-graduate program with a large Oklahoma employer while finishing your engineering degree. OG&E, PSO, and Boeing's Tulsa operations have historically brought in entry-level engineers through structured programs. Pursuing your Engineer in Training designation through the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure signals commitment to licensure and gives you a credentialing edge. Adjacent roles like electrical designer, field technician, or systems analyst are also common stepping stones that lead into full engineering positions.
Where can I find and apply to electrical systems engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to electrical systems engineer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
