Electrical Engineer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical engineer in Oklahoma?
Start by earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, then register as an Engineer Intern with the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. After gaining qualifying work experience under a licensed PE, you can sit for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to earn full Professional Engineer licensure, which many Oklahoma employers in energy and government contracting require for senior and project-lead roles.
How much do electrical engineers make in Oklahoma?
Electrical engineers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $107,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,060 for the lowest 10% to over $187,140 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical engineers in Oklahoma?
Employers hiring electrical engineers in Oklahoma right now include HDR, Northrop Grumman, and Halff, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's energy corridor and defense presence mean utilities, oil and gas operators, and federal contractors are consistently among the largest sources of electrical engineering openings in the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most electrical engineer jobs?
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Muskogee lead Oklahoma for electrical engineer openings. Oklahoma City drives volume through its concentration of utility companies, state government agencies, and defense contractors tied to Tinker Air Force Base, while Tulsa's industrial base in oil and gas midstream and aerospace manufacturing sustains its own strong pipeline of engineering roles.
Are there remote electrical engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of electrical engineer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most electrical engineering work in the state's energy and industrial sectors. The roles most likely to allow remote arrangements are in system design, specification writing, and project engineering where site presence is intermittent rather than daily.
How can I get hired as a electrical engineer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting new-graduate or associate engineer programs at Oklahoma's major utilities and defense contractors, such as OGE Energy's engineering development rotations or Tinker Air Force Base civilian engineering positions that list Engineer Intern registration as sufficient. Candidates transitioning from adjacent roles like electrical technician or controls technician at oil and gas facilities also find a natural on-ramp. Completing your FE exam and building a portfolio of design projects or senior capstone work gives Oklahoma hiring managers a concrete baseline when experience is thin.
Where can I find and apply to electrical engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to electrical engineer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current Oklahoma openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and target location within the state, and apply directly to each position that fits.
