Physical Design Engineer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical design engineer in Oklahoma?
Most physical design engineers in Oklahoma enter the field with a bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering from a program such as those offered at the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University. No state-issued license is required for this role. Employers in Oklahoma's aerospace and defense corridors typically hire candidates who have completed relevant coursework in VLSI design or digital circuits and can demonstrate hands-on EDA tool experience through coursework projects or internships.
Which companies hire physical design engineers in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring physical design engineers in Oklahoma include Expleo, Northrop Grumman, and WSB, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's aerospace and defense industry base means many openings are tied to large systems integrators and contractors with long-term facilities in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most physical design engineer jobs?
The Oklahoma cities with the most physical design engineer openings are Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Norman. Oklahoma City dominates the distribution because of its concentration of aerospace primes and defense contractors tied to Tinker Air Force Base, while Tulsa's industrial and engineering sector supports additional openings, and Norman benefits from proximity to the University of Oklahoma's engineering research activity.
Are there remote physical design engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they are limited. Physical design engineering is a highly tool-intensive and collaboration-dependent discipline, and most Oklahoma employers in aerospace and defense require on-site or hybrid arrangements for security and workflow reasons. About 24% of physical design engineer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work are timing analysis review and documentation tasks rather than hands-on implementation work.
How can I get hired as a physical design engineer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for associate or junior physical design engineer roles at Oklahoma's aerospace and defense contractors, several of which run structured new-graduate hiring programs each spring. L3Harris and Raytheon both maintain engineering early-career pipelines at their Oklahoma facilities. Lateral entry from adjacent roles such as FPGA design, digital verification, or circuit simulation is common. Completing a capstone VLSI project, earning a Cadence or Synopsys academic certification, and building a portfolio of EDA tool work from university labs gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants without hands-on experience.
Where can I find and apply to physical design engineer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to physical design engineer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit. The listings are updated regularly, so checking back when your search is active helps you catch new postings from Oklahoma employers.
