Electrical Technician Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an electrical technician job in Columbus?
Focus on the sectors that drive Columbus hiring: utility infrastructure, commercial construction, and industrial manufacturing in the Rickenbacker and West Columbus corridors. Contractors supporting Ohio's data center buildout and the healthcare campuses on the north side are also active. Candidates who hold a current Ohio journeyman or apprenticeship credential and have hands-on PLC or low-voltage systems experience consistently stand out against the local competition.
Which companies hire electrical technicians in Columbus?
Columbus electrical technician roles are posted by Battelle, M.C. Dean, and Interstates Companies and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. The Columbus market includes a mix of large utility operators, regional electrical contractors serving commercial construction, and in-house maintenance teams at manufacturing and logistics facilities.
Are there remote electrical technician jobs in Columbus?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the role: hands-on installation, maintenance, and inspection work is almost always on-site by nature. About 50% of electrical technician openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those tend to concentrate in design-review, estimating, or technical support functions rather than field work.
How can I get an electrical technician job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through a registered apprenticeship with an IBEW Local 683-affiliated contractor or a commercial construction firm hiring apprentice-level help for the active data center and mixed-use development projects around New Albany and Polaris. Facilities maintenance roles at Columbus hospital systems and university campuses also hire at the entry level and provide structured on-the-job training without requiring a journeyman license upfront.
Which industries hire the most electrical technicians in Columbus?
Most electrical technician openings in Columbus sit in Staffing & Recruiting and Banking & Financial Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Columbus's role as a regional logistics hub, its growing data center corridor in New Albany, and the concentration of large healthcare employers on the north side all sustain consistent demand for qualified electrical technicians year-round.
