Embedded Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a embedded in New York?
Embedded engineering in New York has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most roles require at minimum a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science from an accredited program. New York's strong university pipeline, including programs at Cornell, RPI, NYU Tandon, and SUNY schools, feeds directly into the state's defense and tech employers. A portfolio of personal or academic embedded projects and familiarity with RTOS environments significantly improves candidacy.
Which companies hire embeddeds in New York?
Employers hiring embeddeds in New York right now include Amazon, Coherent, and Albireo Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's defense manufacturing base on Long Island and its enterprise technology sector in the city create a consistently broad range of openings across contract and full-time roles.
Which New York cities have the most embedded jobs?
The cities with the most embedded openings in New York are New York, East Syracuse, and Horseheads. New York City anchors the market through its concentration of enterprise technology and semiconductor firms, while Long Island draws heavily from the defense and aerospace contractors headquartered there, and the Hudson Valley benefits from IBM's longstanding research and engineering operations in the region.
Are there remote embedded jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Embedded work is inherently hands-on, requiring access to hardware, lab equipment, and physical prototypes, which limits how much of the role can move off-site. About 6% of embedded openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those openings tend to cover higher-level firmware architecture or software-defined systems work where hardware access is less constant.
How can I get hired as a embedded in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate engineering role or co-op at a defense or industrial technology firm on Long Island or in the Hudson Valley, where employers like Northrop Grumman and L3Harris regularly bring on junior engineers from New York university programs. Lateral moves from software QA, hardware test technician, or IT systems roles can also open the door. A personal project, capstone, or senior thesis involving a microcontroller build with documented code is the single credential that most consistently gets interviews for candidates without professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to embedded jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to embedded jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state updated in real time. Search the listings, find the roles that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employer through the posting.
