Quality Assurance Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a quality assurance engineer in New York?
Most quality assurance engineers in New York enter the field with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related engineering discipline. New York does not require a state-issued license to work as a quality assurance engineer, so hiring is credential-driven rather than board-regulated. Employers across New York City's fintech and media sectors and the state's pharmaceutical hubs typically look for ISTQB certification, hands-on automation experience, and a portfolio demonstrating testing projects.
Which companies hire quality assurance engineers in New York?
Employers hiring quality assurance engineers in New York right now include Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg, and New York Life, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial services, pharmaceutical, and enterprise technology companies means QA engineering demand stays broad across both established corporations and growth-stage firms headquartered in or around New York City.
Which New York cities have the most quality assurance engineer jobs?
The cities with the most quality assurance engineer openings in New York are New York, Albany, and New York City. New York City dominates the distribution because of its dense concentration of fintech, media technology, and enterprise software employers, while Albany and Buffalo produce openings through state government IT systems, healthcare networks, and regional manufacturing operations that maintain dedicated QA functions.
Are there remote quality assurance engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 26% of quality assurance engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how naturally the role fits distributed work when testing cycles run on cloud-hosted environments. The portions of the role most often done fully remotely are test case design, automation scripting, and defect tracking, while on-site work is more common in heavily regulated industries like pharma.
How can I get hired as a quality assurance engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a technical support, business analyst, or junior developer role into QA at a company already familiar with your skills. Large New York employers in financial services and healthcare IT regularly onboard associate QA engineers through structured rotational programs or new-graduate cohorts. Building a portfolio with open-source testing contributions and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification makes candidates competitive for entry-level openings, particularly at the technology arms of New York City's major banks and hospital systems.
Where can I find and apply to quality assurance engineer jobs in New York?
