Director of Emergency Medical Services
Position Summary
The Director of Emergency Medical Services is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and operational management of the EMS department. This role ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency medical care while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate EMS personnel
- Establish departmental goals and strategic plans
- Develop policies and procedures
- Serve as liaison with county officials and healthcare partners
Operations Management
- Oversee daily EMS operations and emergency response
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and resource deployment
- Ensure readiness of ambulances, equipment, and supplies
Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage department budget
- Oversee EMS billing and financial reporting
- Approve expenditures and payroll
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with all EMS regulations
- Review patient care reports for quality and accuracy
- Implement quality improvement initiatives
Training and Development
- Coordinate staff training and continuing education
- Evaluate competency and performance of personnel
Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate with fire, law enforcement, and emergency agencies
- Lead disaster response planning and drills
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in EMS, Healthcare Administration, or related field
- Paramedic certification (state required)
- Progressive EMS leadership experience
Work Environment
- Combination of office and field work

- May require 24/7 availability for emergencies
