Engineering Project Manager Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a engineering project manager job in Richmond?
Focus your search on Richmond's defense contractors, electric utilities, and civil infrastructure firms, which drive the heaviest local demand for engineering project managers. Candidates with PMP certification and hands-on experience in construction or systems integration stand out in this market. Networking through the Richmond chapter of the Project Management Institute and targeting employers in Innsbrook, Chesterfield, and the downtown government district gives you a concrete local edge.
Which companies hire engineering project managers in Richmond?
Richmond engineering project manager roles are posted by Bowman, Bohler, and MasTec and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's mix of federal contractors, Dominion Energy's regional operations, and civil engineering firms makes it a consistent market for experienced project managers across both public and private sectors.
Are there remote engineering project manager jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for this role since most engineering project manager positions require on-site oversight of construction, facilities, or field teams. About 26% of engineering project manager openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to concentrate in program management or IT-adjacent engineering work rather than hands-on infrastructure roles.
How can I get a engineering project manager job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is moving into a project coordinator or junior engineer role at one of the region's civil engineering or utility firms, then building toward a project manager title. Chesterfield and Henrico county contractors regularly hire entry-level coordinators, and Richmond's active infrastructure investment means openings appear consistently. A PMP-eligible degree plus intern experience in construction management or systems engineering sharpens your candidacy significantly in this market.
Which industries hire the most engineering project managers in Richmond?
Richmond engineering project manager roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's role as a regional hub for Dominion Energy, Virginia Department of Transportation projects, and federal defense contracting sustains steady, year-round demand across those sectors.
