Manufacturing Setup Engineering Technician

Job Overview

Dyersville Die Cast is hiring a hands-on Manufacturing Setup Engineering Technician to support machine setup documentation, SolidWorks drawings, equipment standards, component design, and production-floor problem-solving.

This is a Level 1 or entry-level engineering opportunity for someone with CAD experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and an interest in growing within a manufacturing engineering environment. A four-year engineering degree is not required.

This position works closely with setup crews, robotics, maintenance, die casting technicians, and the tool room to ensure machines are set up correctly, documentation is accurate, and setup-related issues are identified and resolved quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain machine setup sheets and related documentation
• Create SolidWorks drawings and diagrams for setup sheets and production support
• Design and order components related to machine setup and tooling support
• Maintain equipment standards and ensure setup information is accurate
• Help diagnose machine setup issues and assist with corrective actions
• Locate and verify the correct equipment needed for machine setups
• Document machine parameters and setup changes while machines are running
• Assist with file organization and documentation control
• Support new machine setups and help ensure smooth startups
• Work with setup, robotics, maintenance, die casting, and tool room teams to improve setup accuracy and efficiency
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Engineering degree, technical degree, CAD certification, or related manufacturing or engineering certification preferred
• Relevant manufacturing, CAD, setup, tooling, or engineering-related experience required
• Experience using CAD software required; SolidWorks experience preferred
• Experience creating engineered drawings or setup diagrams preferred
• Component design experience preferred
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, sheet metal work, tooling, or machine setup
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, engineering, and tool room teams
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods
• Ability to use basic hand tools
• Fine motor skills needed for measuring, documenting, and working with equipment and components

Work Environment

This position works in an industrial foundry environment around loud machinery, high-temperature areas, molten metal, lubricants, and other manufacturing equipment. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.
