Enterprise Architect Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a enterprise architect in Illinois?
Enterprise architecture is not a state-licensed profession in Illinois, so there is no Illinois-specific board exam or registration required. Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering, followed by progressive IT roles such as systems analyst, solutions architect, or IT manager. Earning a TOGAF certification strengthens candidacy significantly, and many Chicago-area financial services and healthcare firms treat it as a baseline expectation for senior roles.
How much do enterprise architects make in Illinois?
Enterprise architects in Illinois earn a median of about $142,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,820 for the lowest 10% to over $193,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire enterprise architects in Illinois?
Employers hiring enterprise architects in Illinois right now include Molex, Capgemini, and Ulta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the Chicago metro, including major insurers, trading firms, and integrated health systems, means demand is broad and sustained across industries.
Which Illinois cities have the most enterprise architect jobs?
Chicago, Lisle, and Bolingbrook have the most enterprise architect openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because of its density of corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and large healthcare networks, while Schaumburg and Naperville draw openings from major technology operations and insurance carriers that have long anchored the northwest and west suburbs.
Are there remote enterprise architect jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 62% of enterprise architect openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the role involves strategy, documentation, and stakeholder alignment rather than on-site infrastructure work. Architecture review sessions, roadmap development, and vendor evaluation are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a enterprise architect in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a systems analyst, business analyst, or cloud engineer role into an associate or junior architect position. Chicago-area employers such as large integrated health systems and regional banks regularly hire candidates from these adjacent roles when they can demonstrate solution design experience. Building a TOGAF foundation certificate, contributing to an architecture repository, and applying for IT rotational programs at large Illinois-headquartered firms are concrete ways to bridge the experience gap without a prior architect title.
Where can I find and apply to enterprise architect jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to enterprise architect jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings. Find the roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
