JOB TITLE: Environmental Engineer, Civil

LOCATION: Austin, TX (Open to remote with 30% travel required).

DURATION: FTE Direct Hire

RATE RANGE: $164K – $206K/year plus equity

The Data Center Design Team

Examples of key problems the team is working on:
- Lead the design, development, and execution of 10s to 100s of GWs of data centers this decade.
- Drive the next generation of liquid cooling and electrical distribution systems.
- Develop and scale first-of-a-kind modular data centers.
- Influence behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses.

Role Scope:

- Own environmental and civil engineering for data center site development: stormwater, grading and drainage, erosion control, and environmental constraints, from first site walk-through to permits in hand.
- Drive environmental permitting (SWPPP and construction stormwater, wetlands and waters permits, land disturbance approvals) through agencies and consultants on schedules measured in weeks.
- Screen prospective sites for fatal flaws (wetlands, floodplains, protected species habitat, contamination findings) before the company commits capital, and kill bad sites early.
- Manage third-party civil and environmental consultants, holding deliverables to schedule and rejecting work that isn't permit-ready.
- Coordinate civil design (grading, site utilities, roads, drainage) with structural and architectural scopes so site packages issue complete and build without rework.

- You've taken industrial or large commercial sites through environmental permitting yourself: you wrote or directed the SWPPP, the delineations, and the applications, and agencies approved them.
- You've screened raw land for development risk and made the call that saved a project from a fatal flaw.
- You've worked directly with regulators (the Corps, state environmental agencies, county authorities) and secured approvals without slipping the schedule.
- You've managed AE and environmental consultants and sent work back when it wasn't ready.
- You read grading and drainage plans fluently and redline them with specifics, elevations and pipe sizes rather than general comments.
- You've sequenced environmental compliance against construction speed, satisfying the permit while keeping the site moving.

Bonus:

- PE license (civil or environmental). Data center, solar, or heavy industrial site development. Multi-state permitting. Civil 3D or hydrology modeling tools. Karst, floodplain, or brownfield site experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- 7+ years of experience supporting environmental permitting, civil site development, industrial facilities, infrastructure projects, utility-scale projects, manufacturing campuses, or large commercial developments.
- Experience leading environmental due diligence efforts during site selection and development, including wetlands, floodplains, protected species, contamination concerns, and permitting constraints.
- Experience developing, reviewing, or managing SWPPPs, stormwater permitting, land disturbance permits, erosion and sediment control plans, and environmental compliance documentation.
- Experience managing environmental permitting efforts with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, including permit applications, agency responses, and approval processes.
- Experience coordinating with environmental consultants, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, contractors, and permitting authorities throughout project development and execution.
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility infrastructure, erosion control, and site development best practices.
- Experience screening greenfield sites and identifying environmental, civil, permitting, constructability, cost, and schedule risks before project commitment.
- Ability to review grading plans, drainage plans, utility layouts, and stormwater designs and provide actionable technical feedback.
- Experience supporting large site developments from feasibility and due diligence through permitting, construction, and closeout.
- Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills across multiple projects and jurisdictions.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Professional Engineer (PE) license, Environmental Professional (EP), or active pursuit of licensure.
- Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial manufacturing campuses, utility infrastructure, energy projects, solar developments, or semiconductor facilities.
- Multi-state permitting experience across federal, state, and local agencies.
- Experience coordinating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state environmental agencies, floodplain authorities, or watershed regulators.
- Experience supporting greenfield, brownfield, conversion, or large-scale campus developments.
- Experience with Civil 3D, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar civil/environmental modeling tools.
- Experience evaluating wetlands, floodplains, protected habitats, environmental assessments, or site remediation requirements.
- Experience managing environmental portions of fast-track construction or infrastructure programs.
- Knowledge of stormwater quality regulations, NPDES programs, MS4 requirements, and industrial environmental compliance programs.
- Experience developing environmental permitting strategies that maintain project schedules while minimizing regulatory risk.
