Environmental health is an essential component of public health and plays a critical role in preventing illness, protecting community health, and creating safe and healthy environments for residents. Under supervision of the Director of Environmental Health, the successful candidate will receive training and perform duties in the field of Environmental Health.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include conducting food establishment, private sewage/septic, private well, and other environmental health inspections and activities to assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations, identify potential health hazards, and promote safe sanitation practices.
Position Qualifications
A candidate for the Environmental Health Inspector position must have an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or its equivalent, which includes coursework consisting of a minimum of 9 credit hours of basic sciences in accordance with the Environmental Health Practitioner Licensing Act. Candidates meeting these qualifications will perform semi technical duties.
Candidates with higher qualifications, including a bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, with at least 30 hours of basic science coursework, will be considered for employment as an Environmental Health Specialist and will be eligible to conduct additional technical duties.
