Field Sales Representative Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field sales representative in South Dakota?
Most field sales representative roles in South Dakota require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, agriculture, or a related discipline, though some employers accept an associate degree paired with relevant experience. South Dakota does not require a general sales license, but roles in insurance, financial products, or pharmaceutical sales may require state-issued licensure through the South Dakota Division of Insurance or a DEA registration. Building product knowledge in South Dakota's dominant industries, such as agriculture, healthcare, and industrial equipment, strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do field sales representatives make in South Dakota?
Field sales representatives in South Dakota earn a median of about $61,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,790 for the lowest 10% to over $99,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire field sales representatives in South Dakota?
Employers hiring field sales representatives in South Dakota right now include Danaher Corporation, Ellison Technologies, and ABB, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's agricultural and healthcare sectors tend to generate the most consistent field sales openings year-round, particularly with regional distributors and large anchor institutions headquartered in Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Which South Dakota cities have the most field sales representative jobs?
Sioux Falls, Brookings, and South Dakota have the highest concentration of field sales representative openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls drives the bulk of listings given its status as the state's commercial hub, home to major financial, healthcare, and retail distribution employers, while Rapid City supports strong demand in industrial equipment and tourism-adjacent services, and Aberdeen anchors agricultural sales activity in the northeast.
Are there remote field sales representative jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. Field sales representative work is inherently territory-based and client-facing, so most roles require regular in-person visits across a defined South Dakota geography. About 0% of field sales representative openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be inside sales support or account management functions rather than true outside field roles.
How can I get hired as a field sales representative in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an inside sales or sales development role at a South Dakota employer, which builds the CRM skills and product knowledge that field positions require. Large Sioux Falls employers in financial services and healthcare often hire sales associates or customer service representatives as stepping stones into territory roles. Completing an agriculture business program at South Dakota State University or a business degree from the University of South Dakota, combined with internship experience, also gives candidates a clear edge with regional employers.
Where can I find and apply to field sales representative jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to field sales representative jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and territory preferences, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
