Financial Project Manager Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial project manager in South Dakota?
Most employers in South Dakota hire financial project managers with a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration combined with project management credentials. South Dakota does not require a state-issued license for this role, but earning a PMP certification through the Project Management Institute is the most recognized credential in local hiring. Gaining experience in budgeting, financial reporting, or accounting at a South Dakota bank, health system, or state agency is the most direct path into the role.
How much do financial project managers make in South Dakota?
Financial project managers in South Dakota earn a median of about $82,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,000 for the lowest 10% to over $130,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial project managers in South Dakota?
Companies currently hiring financial project managers in South Dakota include Lloyd Companies, Terex Corporation, and Fidelity Investments, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Sanford Health, Citibank South Dakota, and the South Dakota Bureau of Finance and Management are among the anchor institutions that sustain ongoing demand for this role across the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most financial project manager jobs?
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Watertown are the South Dakota cities with the most financial project manager openings. Sioux Falls drives the bulk of demand as the state's financial services and healthcare hub, where large employers in banking and hospital system finance are concentrated, while Rapid City and Pierre generate openings through regional healthcare networks, state government agencies, and infrastructure-related project work.
Are there remote financial project manager jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, and more than most fields, since financial project management is largely desk-based and analytical. About 43% of financial project manager openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's compatibility with distributed teams. Budgeting, financial modeling, and project reporting functions are the responsibilities most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a financial project manager in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an accounting analyst, budget coordinator, or financial analyst role at a South Dakota bank, health system, or state agency, where you build project oversight experience before stepping into a formal project manager title. Sanford Health and the South Dakota Department of Revenue both hire financial analysts and program coordinators who take on project responsibilities over time. Earning a CAPM certification from the Project Management Institute gives candidates without direct PM titles a concrete credential that South Dakota employers recognize during early-career hiring.
Where can I find and apply to financial project manager jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to financial project manager jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your experience.
