Green Card AI Research Scientist Jobs
AI Research Scientist roles at U.S. research labs, tech companies, and universities regularly qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Your employer files on your behalf, and a doctoral or master's degree in machine learning, computer science, or a related field typically anchors the petition.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an AI Research Scientist
Align your credentials to EB-2 requirements
A U.S.-equivalent master's or doctoral degree in AI, machine learning, or computer science is the standard anchor for EB-2 petitions. If your foreign degree is a three-year program, obtain a credential evaluation before your employer begins the PERM process.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search the OFLC Foreign Labor Application Gateway disclosure data for AI Research Scientist or related SOC codes to find employers who have filed PERM cases recently. Published filings show actual job titles, worksites, and prevailing wage levels used.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring roles
Filter by EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship and AI Research Scientist titles on Migrate Mate to surface employers with verified green card filing history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored a permanent resident.
Verify your prevailing wage before the offer stage
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level II or Level III wage for your target metro before negotiating, since PERM is rejected if the offered wage falls below it.
Clarify the PERM timeline during offer negotiations
PERM recruitment and DOL review currently take six to eighteen months before your employer can file the I-140 with USCIS. Ask at the offer stage whether the company runs PERM concurrently with onboarding or waits for a performance milestone.
Document research publications and patents early
USCIS officers scrutinize whether an AI Research Scientist role genuinely requires an advanced degree. Published papers, patents, and conference presentations in your application packet strengthen both the EB-2 job requirements argument and your own qualifying credentials.
Green Card AI Research Scientist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AI Research Scientist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most AI Research Scientist positions qualify for EB-2 because employers routinely require a master's or doctoral degree in computer science, machine learning, or a related field as a minimum job requirement. If the employer's posted requirements specify only a bachelor's degree, the role defaults to EB-3. The distinction matters because EB-2 priority dates move faster for most countries outside of India and China.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
An H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status with a six-year maximum and an annual lottery. PERM-based sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency with no renewal cycle and no cap lottery at the EB-3 level for most countries. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status can take two to five years depending on your country of birth and USCIS workload.
What happens to my green card case if I change employers mid-process?
If you change employers before USCIS approves your I-140, your PERM filing is abandoned and your new employer must restart the process from scratch. After I-140 approval and once your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 let you move to a same or similar role without losing your place in the queue, provided your adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days.
Where can I find AI Research Scientist jobs that already offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history so you're only seeing employers who have filed PERM cases for this type of role. You can also cross-reference the DOL OFLC disclosure data directly by searching for AI Research Scientist SOC codes to confirm a company's recent labor certification activity before applying.
Can my employer sponsor me for a National Interest Waiver instead of going through PERM?
A National Interest Waiver, or NIW, lets qualified EB-2 candidates self-petition without employer sponsorship or PERM labor certification, but the burden is on you to demonstrate that your AI research work benefits the United States broadly. USCIS evaluates the importance of your research, your ability to advance it, and whether the national benefit outweighs the standard labor market test. It's a strong option for researchers with published work and institutional backing.
