Green Card Automation Specialist Jobs
Automation Specialist roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which permanently anchors your U.S. work authorization to the employer rather than a temporary visa status. Manufacturers, defense contractors, and industrial tech firms regularly sponsor these positions, making direct employer outreach a practical path to sponsorship.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Automation Specialist
Document your PLC and SCADA credentials early
Gather certifications for platforms like Siemens, Rockwell, or Fanuc before applying. PERM job descriptions often list specific automation tools as requirements, and your credentials must match exactly or the labor certification can be denied.
Target manufacturers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer already manages federal compliance paperwork. Automation roles at E-Verify participants in automotive, aerospace, and food processing are among the most consistent sources of EB-3 sponsorship for skilled foreign workers.
Search Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter by role and industry to surface companies with active green card filing history for Automation Specialists. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level PERM data so you can prioritize outreach to operations that have completed the full EB-2 or EB-3 process before.
Clarify the prevailing wage tier in your offer letter
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up your SOC code before negotiating salary. Your offered wage must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level, or PERM will fail at the audit stage.
Verify your O*NET classification matches the job duties
The O*NET profile for Automation Specialists defines the occupational scope DOL uses during PERM review. If your actual duties differ significantly from the listed tasks, your employer's attorney needs to reconcile the description before filing to avoid a supervised recruitment audit.
Green Card Automation Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Automation Specialist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on your credentials. EB-3 covers skilled workers with a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and most Automation Specialist positions qualify at this level. EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree or your employer can justify a National Interest Waiver based on specialized expertise in industrial controls or critical infrastructure automation.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Automation Specialist roles?
The H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa subject to an annual lottery cap, while EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship is a permanent residence pathway with no lottery. PERM takes longer, typically 18 to 36 months from labor certification through I-140 approval, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a two- or three-year authorization that must be renewed.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for an Automation Specialist?
Your employer files an ETA Form 9089 with DOL after completing a supervised recruitment period to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. The job description must specifically reflect your automation duties, the required tools and certifications, and the minimum qualifications. Once DOL certifies the PERM, your employer files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS to establish your priority date.
Which industries sponsor Automation Specialist green cards most frequently?
Manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverage processing are among the heaviest filers for Automation Specialist PERM cases. These sectors run continuous production operations that depend on PLC programming, robotic systems integration, and SCADA management, making sponsorship a practical hiring tool rather than an exception. Use Migrate Mate to identify employers in these sectors with a documented history of completing the full EB-2 or EB-3 process.
Can I change employers while my green card case is pending?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can transfer your I-140 priority date to a new employer if your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days or more and the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Automation Specialists, a role with substantially the same automation duties and SOC code generally satisfies the same-or-similar standard under USCIS guidance.
