Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Backend Infrastructure Engineer
Document your systems architecture credentials early
Gather performance benchmarks, architecture diagrams, and project outcomes before your employer files the PERM application. DOL audits frequently request evidence that your role requires specialized skills, and specific infrastructure achievements strengthen that record.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data for companies that have previously filed PERM applications under SOC codes tied to infrastructure and systems engineering roles. Prior filings signal that the employer understands the process and has internal counsel to handle it.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 pathway with your employer
Backend Infrastructure Engineer roles typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, but a master's degree in computer science or equivalent may support an EB-2 petition. Ask your sponsoring employer to confirm which category they plan to file under before PERM starts.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring companies by role
Filter by job title and green card sponsorship history to surface employers actively hiring backend infrastructure engineers. Migrate Mate surfaces employer PERM filing patterns so you can prioritize outreach toward companies with a real track record of sponsoring this specific role.
Understand how PERM job requirements affect your offer letter
DOL requires that the PERM job description match your actual duties, not an inflated requirements list. If the offer letter lists skills you don't have, USCIS can challenge the I-140 petition later. Review the job description against your resume before signing.
Account for priority date backlogs in your offer negotiation
If you're born in India or China, EB-2 and EB-3 priority date backlogs can extend your wait significantly beyond the PERM filing date. Negotiate your employment start date and visa bridging terms with that timeline in mind, not just the initial PERM processing window.

Find Backend Infrastructure Engineer JobsBackend Infrastructure Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Backend Infrastructure Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Backend Infrastructure Engineer positions qualify for EB-3 sponsorship as skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. If the role requires a master's degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, your employer may be able to file under EB-2 instead. The PERM job description determines which category applies, so the requirements listed in the labor certification are what USCIS evaluates.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for backend infrastructure roles?
H-1B status is temporary and tied to annual cap seasons and lottery selection, while a PERM-based green card leads to permanent residency with no renewal requirement. There's no annual cap lottery for EB-3 petitions the way there is for H-1B registrations. The tradeoff is time: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status typically take two to four years for most nationalities, compared to an H-1B that can approve in weeks with premium processing.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from my employer?
Your employer must conduct a supervised DOL recruitment process to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker is available for the Backend Infrastructure Engineer position. This includes posting the job through specific channels, documenting applicant rejections with lawful reasons, and submitting the ETA Form 9089 to DOL. The entire recruitment window typically runs 60 to 90 days before the PERM application can be filed.
How can I find employers who will sponsor a green card for this role?
Searching by job title alone won't tell you which employers have actually completed PERM filings for infrastructure engineering roles. Migrate Mate indexes DOL labor certification data so you can filter by job title and see which companies have a demonstrated history of sponsoring Backend Infrastructure Engineer positions specifically, helping you focus your applications on employers with a real track record.
Can I change jobs after my employer files the PERM application?
Changing employers resets the PERM process entirely, because the labor certification is tied to the specific employer and job description. If your I-140 has already been approved and you've been in adjustment of status for more than 180 days, portability rules under AC21 may let you move to a similar role without losing your priority date. Before accepting a competing offer, confirm with an immigration attorney whether your case has reached that threshold.
