Green Card Sr Software Development Manager Jobs
Sr Software Development Manager roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Do you want to solve business challenges through innovative technology? Do you enjoy working on scalable services technology in a team environment? Do you like working on industry-defining projects that move the needle?
At Amazon, we hire the best minds in technology to innovate and build on behalf of our customers. The focus we have on our customers is why we are one of the world’s most beloved brands – customer obsession is part of our company DNA. Our Software Development Engineers (SDEs) use technology to solve complex problems and get to see the impact of their work first-hand.
The challenges SDEs solve for at Amazon are big and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products around the world. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years. If this sounds interesting to you, apply and come chart your own path at Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of multi-component software systems across the full development lifecycle, from defining technical strategy through deployment and operational excellence.
- Own your team's architectural direction, making informed trade-offs between scalability, performance, security, and maintainability while ensuring software is extensible for future needs.
- Collaborate with engineers across related teams to align on system interfaces, resolve cross-team dependencies, and deliver integrated solutions that serve customers effectively.
- Mentor and coach engineers on your team and beyond, raising the engineering bar through code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on guidance that helps others grow.
- Evaluate and integrate generative artificial intelligence tools and emerging technologies where appropriate, applying responsible practices to improve team productivity and software quality.
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing a technical design document from a teammate, providing feedback that sharpens the approach before implementation begins. After a quick standup, you dive into coding a critical component of a system your team is building, ensuring it meets the high bar for clarity, error handling, and documentation you set for yourself. In the afternoon, you join a cross-team architecture discussion to align on shared interfaces, then wrap up by pairing with a junior engineer to help them work through a tricky problem.

Align your credentials with EB-2 requirements
An advanced degree in computer science or a related field strengthens your EB-2 eligibility significantly. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation completed before applying so employers don't encounter surprises during PERM filing.
Target companies with active PERM filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data for companies that have filed PERM applications for software development manager roles specifically. Employers who've navigated this process before move faster and make fewer procedural errors that delay your green card timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filtering job postings by sponsorship history saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-contacting HR teams. Migrate Mate surfaces Sr Software Development Manager openings at companies with documented green card sponsorship records, so you can prioritize your search efficiently.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer letter
Get the employer's commitment to begin PERM as part of your written offer, not a verbal assurance after you start. Specify the EB category and confirm the company uses experienced immigration counsel, since DOL audits on management-level PERM cases are not uncommon.
Understand how priority date backlogs affect your timeline
If you're from India or China, the EB-2 and EB-3 priority date queues can extend your wait by years beyond PERM approval. Ask your employer's immigration attorney about concurrent I-485 filing eligibility and whether EB-3 downgrade strategies apply to your situation.
Prepare for PERM recruitment documentation requirements
DOL requires employers to run specific recruitment steps, including job postings and internal notices, before filing PERM. As the sponsored employee, make sure your employer documents why each U.S. applicant was not selected, since weak documentation is the leading audit trigger for senior technical roles.
Green Card Sr Software Development Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sr Software Development Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on how the employer defines the position. EB-2 applies when the role requires a master's degree or equivalent, which is common for senior management-level engineering jobs. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree plus progressive experience. The employer sets the minimum requirements in the PERM job description, so the category chosen affects your eligibility and wait time.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status requiring renewal every three years with no direct path to permanence on its own. Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status leads to lawful permanent residency. There's no annual lottery for employment-based green cards at the EB-3 level, and once your I-140 is approved, your priority date is locked in even if you change jobs under AC21 portability rules.
How long does the PERM process take for a Sr Software Development Manager position?
DOL currently processes most PERM applications within six to eighteen months, though audit-selected cases take longer. After PERM certification, your employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS. If your priority date is current, you can file for adjustment of status concurrently. For applicants from India or China, the total wait from PERM filing to green card approval can extend considerably due to per-country backlogs.
What makes a Sr Software Development Manager job PERM-ready from a job description standpoint?
The PERM job description must reflect what the job genuinely requires, not inflated credentials designed to screen out U.S. workers. For this role, that typically means specifying a degree in computer science or a closely related field, relevant years of experience, and technical management responsibilities. USCIS and DOL scrutinize senior positions closely, so employers can't list requirements that don't match actual day-to-day duties.
Where can I find Sr Software Development Manager jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Most job listings don't explicitly advertise PERM sponsorship, so searching by sponsorship history is more reliable than keyword searches. Migrate Mate filters Sr Software Development Manager roles by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, letting you skip outreach to companies that don't sponsor and focus on the ones that have a proven track record of completing the PERM process for technical leadership roles.
