Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Colorectal Surgeon
Translate your fellowship credentials for PERM
PERM requires your employer to define minimum education and experience requirements before advertising the role. Get your colorectal surgery fellowship certificate evaluated by a NACES-member credential evaluator so DOL reviewers can verify U.S.-equivalent training without delays.
Target academic medical centers with GME programs
Teaching hospitals and health systems with graduate medical education programs file PERM petitions far more frequently for surgical subspecialties than private practices. Look for institutions with colorectal surgery residency or fellowship slots, since their legal infrastructure for sponsorship is already in place.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for colorectal surgeons in the specific metropolitan area where you'll practice. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV wage tiers before you negotiate, so your offer letter meets PERM requirements from day one.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching for employers actively filing EB-2 or EB-3 petitions for surgical roles is faster with verified data. Migrate Mate surfaces hospitals and health systems with documented green card sponsorship history for physician roles, so you spend less time cold-approaching employers who don't sponsor.
File I-140 concurrently to lock in your priority date
Once your PERM is certified by DOL, your employer can file the I-140 petition with USCIS. Filing promptly after certification establishes your priority date, which controls your place in the EB-2 or EB-3 queue, especially critical if you're a national of a high-demand country.
Confirm your state medical license covers the PERM period
DOL audits for physician PERM cases often request proof that the sponsored worker meets all state licensing requirements at the time of filing. Confirm your state medical license is active and unrestricted before your employer submits the PERM application to avoid a NOFD or audit delay.

Find Colorectal Surgeon JobsColorectal Surgeon Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do colorectal surgeons qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Colorectal surgeons can qualify under either category. EB-2 applies to advanced-degree professionals, and a medical degree with subspecialty fellowship training typically satisfies that threshold. EB-3 covers professionals with a U.S.-equivalent bachelor's degree or higher. Most hospital sponsors file under EB-2 for fellowship-trained colorectal surgeons, though EB-3 is an option when the job description allows a broader degree standard.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B grants temporary work authorization for up to six years and is subject to an annual lottery for cap-subject employers. Employment-based green card sponsorship through PERM leads to lawful permanent residency with no renewal cycle. There is no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and EB-2 backlogs vary by nationality. The PERM process also takes longer upfront, typically one to two years before USCIS adjudicates the I-140.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from the hiring hospital?
The employer must conduct a DOL-prescribed recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the colorectal surgeon role at the offered wage. This includes posting the job in specific outlets, documenting all applicants, and filing the ETA Form 9089 with DOL. The entire supervised recruitment and review window typically runs four to eight months before DOL certifies or audits the application.
How can I find colorectal surgeon jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters surgical roles by employers with verified employment-based green card sponsorship history, saving you the manual work of researching hospital systems one by one. You can search by specialty, geographic market, and sponsorship type to identify positions where PERM filing is a realistic part of the hiring package.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Changing employers after PERM certification but before I-140 approval generally voids the petition, since PERM is employer-specific. Once your I-140 is approved and you've been in the EB-2 or EB-3 queue for 180 days or more, AC21 portability may allow you to change to a same or similar colorectal surgery role at a new employer without losing your priority date. Consult an immigration attorney before making that move.
