Align your credentials to PERM requirements
Your degree and job title must match the minimum requirements stated in the PERM application. A construction management or civil engineering degree strengthens your case; unrelated degrees require documented equivalent experience through a credentials evaluation.
Target contractors with federal project histories
General contractors and construction management firms working on federal or public infrastructure projects often carry E-Verify obligations, signaling established HR infrastructure for sponsoring foreign workers through PERM and I-140 filings.
Search sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Construction Coordinator roles by employers with green card sponsorship history. Targeting companies that have filed PERM applications for similar roles before cuts prospecting time significantly.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
DOL sets a prevailing wage for your specific occupation, experience level, and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to confirm your negotiated salary meets the Level I through Level IV threshold required for your PERM filing.
Clarify the I-140 portability window with your employer
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you can change employers without restarting the green card process under AC21 portability rules. Raise this in offer-stage discussions so both sides understand the filing timeline and commitment involved.
Document field experience using O*NET task descriptions
PERM audits require precise documentation of your duties. Cross-referencing your resume and experience letters against the O*NET occupation profile for Construction Coordinators ensures your documented tasks match what DOL expects for the role.
Green Card Construction Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Construction Coordinator role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Construction Coordinator positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers when the employer requires a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline. EB-2 applies if the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or you hold credentials that meet that standard. The employer's minimum education requirement, stated in the PERM application, determines which category applies.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery cap. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency and has no annual lottery. The process takes longer, typically two to four years or more depending on your country of birth and priority date, but the outcome is a path to lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a Construction Coordinator employer?
The employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign, advertise the role publicly, and document that no qualified U.S. workers were available. DOL then reviews the application and, if approved, the employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS. The entire PERM stage typically takes six to eighteen months before the I-140 is even filed.
How do I find Construction Coordinator employers that actively sponsor green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Construction Coordinator roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Targeting companies that have already navigated PERM filings for similar roles reduces the time spent educating employers on the process and increases your chances of finding a sponsor prepared to commit to the full sponsorship timeline.
Can I switch jobs after my I-140 is approved without losing my place in line?
Yes. Under AC21 portability rules, once your I-140 has been approved for 180 days and your adjustment of status application is pending, you can move to a same or similar occupation without restarting the green card process. Construction Coordinator roles at different employers generally qualify as sufficiently similar for portability purposes, but your immigration attorney should confirm the match before you accept a new offer.
