Traffic Engineer Green Card Jobs
Traffic Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document recruitment efforts before filing an I-140 petition. State DOTs, municipal agencies, and private engineering consultancies regularly sponsor foreign traffic engineers for permanent residency.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Traffic Engineer
Match your credentials to EB-2 or EB-3
If you hold a bachelor's in civil or transportation engineering, you qualify under EB-3. A master's or PE licensure combined with specialized traffic modeling experience can support an EB-2 advanced-degree petition, which skips PERM entirely through the National Interest Waiver route.
Target employers with active PERM filings
State DOTs, metropolitan planning organizations, and engineering consultancies like AECOM, WSP, and Kimley-Horn regularly file PERM applications for traffic engineers. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to confirm which employers have sponsored this specific occupation before approaching them.
Find green card sponsors using Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Traffic Engineer openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This cuts the time you'd otherwise spend manually cross-referencing PERM filings against job postings across dozens of agency and consultancy career portals.
Verify your PE license transfers across states
PERM job requirements must match the position you'll actually perform. If your employer requires a Professional Engineer license, confirm your foreign credentials qualify for NCEES comity or state licensure by endorsement before your employer locks in the PERM job description.
Understand the PERM recruitment window
Your employer must complete DOL-mandated recruitment, including newspaper ads and an internal job posting, within 180 days before filing PERM. Any gap or misstep resets the clock, so ask your employer's attorney to start the prevailing wage determination from OFLC Wage Search before posting the position.
Prepare for priority date backlogs if born in India or China
EB-3 is current for most countries, but applicants born in India or China face multi-year waits at the adjustment of status stage. Check the USCIS monthly Visa Bulletin to understand when your priority date will become current before accepting a role that's purely EB-3.

Find Traffic Engineer JobsTraffic Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Traffic Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Traffic Engineer positions typically qualify under both categories. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree in civil or transportation engineering. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree or when you can document advanced credentials in traffic operations, modeling, or signal design. PERM labor certification is required for employer-sponsored petitions under both categories.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for traffic engineers?
H-1B status is temporary and subject to an annual lottery cap, which creates uncertainty for both you and your employer. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual lottery. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM processing at DOL takes six to twelve months before the I-140 petition even begins, compared to H-1B status which can start within months.
Which types of employers sponsor Traffic Engineers for green cards?
State and local departments of transportation are among the most consistent sponsors because they have ongoing hiring needs and established HR processes for PERM filings. Large engineering consultancies that handle federal highway, transit, and safety projects also sponsor regularly. Smaller firms sponsor less often because PERM legal costs are significant regardless of company size.
How can I find Traffic Engineer jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Traffic Engineer openings filtered by employers with verified green card sponsorship history, so you're not relying on vague job descriptions that say 'sponsorship available.' Targeting employers who have already completed PERM filings for this occupation reduces the risk that a company will back out once they learn what the process involves.
What role does the prevailing wage determination play in my green card case?
Before filing PERM, your employer must obtain a prevailing wage determination from OFLC that sets the minimum salary DOL considers appropriate for your role and location. If your offered salary falls below that figure, your employer must raise it before filing or the application will be denied. You can preview wage levels by occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search tool before accepting an offer.
