Robotics Green Card Jobs
Robotics roles in automation, machine vision, and controls engineering qualify as specialty occupations under PERM labor certification, making them strong candidates for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship. Employers file LCAs and I-140 petitions to permanently sponsor foreign engineers, bypassing annual lottery caps entirely.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
Pickle is looking for a Robotics Software Engineer with a focus on Machine Learning and Grasping to join a small, high-impact team working at the intersection of classical robotics and modern AI. This role sits at the heart of one of our core technical challenges: how does the robot decide what and how to grasp? The answer involves a fusion of classical robotic techniques with state-of-the-art neural networks and models. If you are someone who has gotten their hands dirty with both ML systems and robotic platforms, and you want to work on problems that are technically deep and practically grounded, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain software at the intersection of machine learning and robotics, with a focus on robot grasping — determining which gripper configuration and tools to use.
- Integrate, improve, and harness SOTA ML models for our task domain. Modify the architectures, create training pipelines, deploy to robots, and continually iterate.
- Collaborate closely with a small, highly technical team (currently two engineers).
- Contribute to simulation-based development and testing of grasping and manipulation systems.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional problem-solving with perception and motion planning teammates.
- Extensively leverage AI coding tools and modern development workflows to maximize individual and team output.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Hands-on experience with machine learning — you have implemented complete ML systems before, understand the terminology, and are comfortable working with medium-scale cloud-based training pipelines.
- Experience applying ML in the context of a robotic system is strongly preferred; a background that spans both the perception and motion planning domains is ideal.
- Strong Python skills are essential. Cloud knowledge (especially GCP) is preferred.
- Familiarity with classical robotics concepts (motion planning, geometry, perception).
- Experience with simulation tooling (Isaac Sim, MuJuCo, etc) for robotics development is a meaningful advantage.
- BS required; MS preferred in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Active use of AI coding assistants and modern development tooling in your day-to-day workflow is preferred.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly across engineering teams with different specializations.
- Willing to work in the office from our Charlestown, MA location at least three days per week.
PAY AT PICKLE:
At Pickle Robot Company, we believe transparency builds trust. The salary range listed here is provided in accordance with Massachusetts law and reflects what we reasonably and in good faith expect to offer for this role. We often consider candidates at different levels of seniority, and final compensation will reflect the level at which a candidate is hired, along with factors like experience and location.
ABOUT PICKLE ROBOT:
Want to get in on the ground floor of a fast-growing, VC-backed robotics company? Join Pickle Robot! We build systems that companies and their teams love.
Pickle robots unload trucks. Every day, millions of trucks and containers are loaded and unloaded, often requiring manual labor—tough, dirty, dangerous, and hard to staff. Pickle automates this process using AI, machine learning, and robotics to deliver reliable products. Our Unload Systems work with teams on loading docks to make the job safer, faster, and more efficient.
Pickle provides best-in-class benefits including health, dental, & vision insurance; unlimited vacation, along with all federal and state holidays; 401K contributions of 5% your salary, travel supplies, and other items to make your working life more fun, comfortable, and productive.

Document your robotics credentials for PERM
PERM requires your employer to prove the role genuinely needs your qualifications. Gather transcripts, professional licenses, and project documentation showing hands-on robotics work before your employer begins the labor certification process with DOL.
Verify your role qualifies as specialty occupation
Check your job title against the O*NET occupation profile for robotics and automation roles. USCIS uses O*NET job zone classifications to confirm specialty occupation status, and a mismatch between your duties and the listed profile can trigger an RFE.
Target manufacturers with active PERM filing history
Aerospace, automotive, and industrial automation manufacturers file PERM applications regularly for controls and robotics engineers. Searching by Standard Occupational Classification codes in the OFLC Wage Search reveals which employers have certified comparable positions recently.
Find green-card-sponsoring robotics employers on Migrate Mate
Searching by occupation and green card sponsorship history saves significant research time. Migrate Mate filters robotics and automation roles specifically by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship activity, so you can focus outreach on realistic targets.
Confirm prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
DOL assigns your PERM application a prevailing wage level based on your duties, not your title. Robotics engineers placed at Level I when their duties match Level III will face wage compliance problems; use the OFLC Wage Search to check before you sign.
Negotiate PERM timeline expectations with your offer
EB-3 green card timelines for robotics roles from most countries run 18 to 36 months through PERM and I-140 combined, before priority date queues. Build explicit PERM filing commitments and I-140 premium processing into your employment offer negotiation.

Find Robotics JobsRobotics Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do robotics engineering roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most robotics and automation engineering positions qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3, depending on how the employer defines the minimum requirements for the role. Positions requiring a master's degree or its equivalent in electrical, mechanical, or software engineering typically qualify for EB-2. Roles with a bachelor's degree requirement qualify under EB-3 skilled worker. Your employer's attorneys draft the job description to match the appropriate category.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for robotics engineers?
The H-1B is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery with no guarantee of selection. Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status leads to permanent residency and carries no annual lottery or cap for most nationalities at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to twelve months, whereas H-1B status can begin within weeks of a petition approval.
What does the PERM process look like for a robotics engineering position?
Your employer files a prevailing wage request with DOL, conducts a supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available, and then submits the PERM application through the FLAG portal. For robotics roles, DOL scrutinizes whether the listed requirements match standard industry practice. Overly narrow requirements, such as demanding a specific robot brand or proprietary software, can lead to a PERM audit.
Where can I find robotics employers who actually sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you filter robotics and automation engineering roles specifically by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never filed a PERM. This narrows your search to employers who have already navigated the process and are willing to commit to the timeline and cost of permanent sponsorship.
Can I switch robotics employers while my green card is in process?
Yes, with timing constraints. If your I-140 has been approved and you're past the 180-day mark, portability rules under AC21 let you move to a new employer in the same or similar occupational classification without losing your priority date. Robotics, controls, and automation engineering roles generally share compatible SOC codes, but your new employer's immigration counsel should confirm the roles are substantially similar before you resign.
