Green Card Engineering Leader Jobs
Engineering Leader roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. Advanced-degree professionals and those with substantial technical management experience are strong candidates for EB-2 classification.

INTRODUCTION
Apple's Media Services organization is home to App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more. Our services touch hundreds of millions of lives daily. At the center of these services is data: the pipelines, platforms, and intelligence that power how people discover and engage with media content, all built on Apple's unwavering commitment to privacy.
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to build and lead the data engineering organization responsible for this foundation. If you are energized by working at a massive scale, building high-performing teams, and evolving data architecture for the AI era on one of the world's most influential platforms, this role was made for you.
DESCRIPTION
As a data engineering leader within Media Services, you will direct a large organization responsible for the design, development, and operation of massive-scale data pipelines and services across Apple's commerce, payments, and content domains. Your team's work powers customer-facing features like search and personalization, as well as critical reporting and analytics for internal and external partners, all built to Apple's exacting standards for reliability, quality, and privacy. Crucially, you will lead the team through a critical evolution: shifting from traditional data pipelines to an AI-first paradigm, architecting systems that produce the ML-ready data necessary to fuel machine learning applications at scale.
This is a deeply cross-functional leadership role. You will collaborate with engineering and business organizations across Apple, influence platform strategy at the executive level, and build a high-performing culture where engineers are empowered to deepen their expertise and extend their impact across the organization.
Responsibilities
-
Lead a large data engineering organization, setting technical direction, defining team structure, and building a culture of ownership, craft, and continuous improvement.
-
Oversee the design, development, and operation of massive-scale data pipelines and services that support commerce, payments, and content domains for Apple's Media Services products.
-
Drive technology modernization programs, leading the shift toward an AI-first data architecture and executing large-scale migrations with minimal disruption to downstream consumers.
-
Partner with engineering, product, and applied research teams across Apple to align platform capabilities with the needs of customer-facing features, internal reporting, and external partner integrations.
-
Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent, empowering individuals to expand their technical reach and growing future leaders.
-
Establish and uphold engineering standards for data quality, reliability, scalability, and privacy across the organization.
-
Communicate data strategy, program progress, and cross-team dependencies clearly to senior engineering leadership and executive stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years leading large engineering organizations (50+ engineers) with multiple layers of management.
-
Proven track record of recruiting, developing leadership talent, and building high-performing engineering cultures at scale.
-
Deep architectural expertise in large-scale data systems, with strong instincts for technical excellence and software engineering best practices.
-
Demonstrated success planning and executing large-scale technology modernization or platform migration programs.
-
Ability to shift seamlessly between deep technical details and big-picture strategy, with the judgment to know when each is required.
-
Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
-
Exceptional communication skills, able to drive clarity in ambiguity, distill complex concepts concisely, and effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
-
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with a track record of influencing outcomes across diverse engineering organizations without direct authority.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing and streaming technologies such as Spark, Flink, Kafka, Apache Iceberg, and Snowflake.
-
Background in AI and machine learning applications within data engineering contexts, such as feature pipelines, model serving infrastructure, or ML platform development.
-
Experience operating data platforms at consumer-internet scale, with a deep appreciation for the intersection of data quality, privacy, and user-facing impact.
-
Background in commerce, payments, digital content, or media domains.
-
Familiarity with Apple's privacy principles or equivalent experience designing data systems with privacy-by-default architectures.
-
History of driving cross-organizational data platform standards or governance programs adopted across multiple engineering teams.

Document your technical leadership scope early
PERM job descriptions must reflect your actual duties. Gather performance reviews, org charts, and project records that show you manage engineering teams, own technical decisions, and drive delivery outcomes before your employer files.
Target employers with established PERM infrastructure
Look for companies that have sponsored engineering roles through PERM before. Employers with in-house immigration counsel and dedicated HR processes move faster and make fewer filing errors than those sponsoring for the first time.
Verify your role qualifies under EB-2 requirements
Engineering Leader positions typically require an advanced degree or its equivalent. Cross-reference the O*NET occupation profile for your specific engineering discipline to confirm the degree requirement aligns with USCIS advanced-degree standards before negotiating your offer.
Negotiate green card sponsorship into your offer
Ask employers to commit to EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship in writing during offer negotiations, not after you start. Employers sometimes agree to H-1B visa sponsorship only, which delays your path to permanent residency by years.
Search for green card sponsors using Migrate Mate
Filter Engineering Leader roles by employers with active green card sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces PERM-filing employers so you can focus your applications on companies that have already committed to sponsoring this visa category.
Confirm your prevailing wage tier before PERM is filed
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your location and job level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level II or Level III wage for your engineering leadership role before the labor condition is submitted.
Green Card Engineering Leader: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engineering Leader role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Engineering Leader positions typically qualify for EB-2 if the role requires a master's degree or equivalent, and EB-3 if a bachelor's degree is the stated minimum. The classification depends on the job description your employer files with DOL, not your personal credentials. USCIS evaluates whether the position itself requires an advanced degree, so your employer's PERM job description must accurately reflect the role's actual educational requirements.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for an Engineering Leader?
H-1B is a temporary work visa with a three-year initial period and an annual lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The PERM process is longer, typically 12 to 24 months from labor certification through I-140 approval, but it removes the lottery risk entirely and lets you build a stable long-term career in the U.S. without recurring renewal cycles.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from my employer?
Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment process to show no qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. This includes job postings, interviews, and documented rejection reasons for any U.S. applicants. The process is managed through DOL's PERM system and must be completed before your employer files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Errors in the recruitment record are a leading cause of PERM audits and delays.
How can I find Engineering Leader jobs with green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Engineering Leader roles specifically filtered by employers with PERM and green card sponsorship history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that only offer H-1B support, letting you focus on employers who have already committed to sponsoring permanent residency for engineering leadership positions.
Can I switch employers after my PERM is filed but before my green card is approved?
Changing employers after PERM is filed but before the I-140 is approved restarts the entire green card process. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, portability rules under AC21 allow you to move to a same or similar role with a new employer without losing your place in line. For Engineering Leader roles, same-or-similar is typically interpreted broadly across engineering disciplines, but USCIS retains discretion.
