Green Card Mechanical Design Engineer Jobs
Mechanical Design Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Employers file with DOL to confirm no qualified U.S. workers are available, then petition USCIS for permanent residency. Advanced-degree candidates and those with strong credentials can pursue EB-2, while EB-3 covers degreed professionals at any level.

Manager, Mechanical Design - NPD
Needham, MA
Our mission is to positively impact people's lives every day, in every home around the world. That means our employees get to be thinkers and tinkerers, designers and doers, creators and number crunchers — makers of things they love. As we grow, we're excited to add a Manager, Mechanical Design - NPD to our global team.
The Role
You'll lead part of our growing NPD team, building the next generation of innovative Ninja products. This is a front-end role: you'll own the technology and feasibility phase of product creation, bringing technical substance and inspiration to our creative efforts and shaping our Motorized product roadmap with credible, buildable solutions.
Think complete system innovations that sit between the physical (mechanical) and the system (sensors, software, batteries, connectivity).
Own the front end of the Motorized roadmap. Use ideation and innovation techniques to unlock and drive the roadmap alongside engineering and cross-functional PD, ID, Brand, and Test Kitchen teams across the US, UK, and China.
Fail fast, learn faster. Drive ideas to a conclusion early via functional rigs before handing part or complete solution packages to the back-end implementation AD team.
Get hands-on. Tinker on both short- and long-term projects, building POC (Proof of Concept) rigs to prove out hypotheses. Manage the hands-on work of prototype building and lab testing, then develop and report findings with clear next steps.
Communicate ideas fast. Sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions.
Run design and engineering studies — independently and in teams — to solve technical and consumer problems, with user experience front of mind at every stage.
Keep the consumer at the center. Collaborate seamlessly with our global AD and CI teams so front-end, consumer-focused sensibilities drive our direction and carry all the way through development to 5-star products.
Coach and grow the team. Actively support and encourage your colleagues — especially junior team members — and motivate them to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions autonomously.
Juggle well. Balance, prioritize, and drive multiple workflows and additional responsibilities against fast-paced schedules and deadlines.
What You'll Bring
Experience & Education
- Degree-level technical qualification — ideally Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Industrial Design with a focus on engineering principles
- Typically 6–10 years of proven experience in a Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Product Design, or Industrial Design environment
- Consumer goods / household appliance experience desirable
- Experience with plastic, casting, and sheet metal manufacturing processes
- Experience working with IP teams to track prior art and identify novel or inventive solutions within an AD/R&D team
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo
- Ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions autonomously and as part of a team
- Comfortable operating in the lab (with training): building prototypes, testing products, and reporting results
- An all-rounder's appreciation for electrical engineering, software, and mechanical principles. UX design appreciation is helpful but not essential
How You Work
- Flexible, resilient, and persevering, with a positive attitude and entrepreneurial nature — these are key to success at SharkNinja
- A collaborator who isn't afraid to fail fast, learn, and pivot
- Positive and driving, with an inquisitive nature
- Strong judgment: knowing which problems to solve, how to make daily progress, and why iterating to prove out hypotheses matters
- A growth mindset — you proactively build your own skills and actively seek out coaching from others
- Keen to contribute to internal working groups beyond your core role to improve processes, working environment, and mindset

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Mechanical Design Engineer
Document your CAD and engineering credentials early
Gather transcripts, professional engineering licenses, and software certifications like SolidWorks or CATIA before applying. PERM requires your employer to define minimum qualifications precisely, so your credentials must match the posted job requirements exactly at the time of filing.
Target manufacturers with active PERM filing history
Aerospace, automotive, and industrial equipment manufacturers regularly sponsor Mechanical Design Engineers through PERM. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data by occupation and employer to identify companies that have filed for this role in the past two years.
Verify your role meets specialty occupation standards
Use O*NET to confirm that Mechanical Design Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. This documentation strengthens both the PERM labor certification and the subsequent I-140 petition.
Search for sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Migrate Mate's job board by green card sponsorship to find Mechanical Design Engineer openings at employers already familiar with the PERM process. Targeting companies with prior EB-3 filings in engineering roles reduces onboarding friction during the sponsorship conversation.
Raise sponsorship timing before accepting an offer
PERM recruitment typically takes six to twelve months before DOL certifies the application. Confirm your prospective employer understands this timeline and has legal counsel experienced with engineering roles before you sign an offer letter.
Understand how EB-3 backlog affects your country of birth
EB-3 green card wait times vary significantly by country of chargeability. Workers born in India or China face multi-year backlogs, while most other nationalities can expect shorter queues. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin monthly to track your priority date progression after I-140 approval.
Green Card Mechanical Design Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Mechanical Design Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on your credentials. EB-3 covers professionals with a U.S. bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in mechanical engineering, which fits most standard design roles. EB-2 is available if the position requires an advanced degree or if you hold a master's or equivalent and your employer can justify the higher qualification requirement in the PERM job description.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Mechanical Design Engineer?
The H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery with a 65,000 cap. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to twelve months, followed by I-140 adjudication, meaning the full process typically runs two to four years before you receive a green card.
What does the PERM process look like for a Mechanical Design Engineer position?
Your employer posts the role publicly and conducts a supervised DOL recruitment campaign to confirm no qualified U.S. workers are available. They then file a PERM application with DOL, which currently takes roughly twelve to eighteen months for analyst review. Once certified, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS, and you apply to adjust status or go through consular processing once a visa number becomes available.
How can I find Mechanical Design Engineer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by green card sponsorship, so you'll spend significant time contacting employers who lack PERM experience. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Mechanical Design Engineer roles at employers with active green card sponsorship history, which shortens your search and improves the odds of a productive sponsorship conversation during the hiring process.
Can my employer file PERM for a role that currently has H-1B visa restrictions?
Yes. PERM and H-1B are separate legal processes with different statutory frameworks. An employer who couldn't secure an H-1B slot in the lottery can still initiate PERM labor certification for the same role. Many Mechanical Design Engineers are sponsored for permanent residency while working on OPT, L-1 visa, or other nonimmigrant status while their I-140 and adjustment of status applications are pending.
