Green Card Educator Jobs
Educator roles in K-12 schools, universities, and workforce training programs can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Your employer files the I-140 petition after DOL certifies the role, putting you on a permanent residency path rather than a renewable visa cycle.

Credential your foreign degree before applying
U.S. school districts and universities require foreign credential evaluations before sponsoring PERM. Get a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-member agency early, especially if your teaching degree is from a three-year program, which some evaluators flag as sub-baccalaureate.
Target districts with established PERM filing history
Public school districts, community colleges, and large private universities file PERM regularly. Search for Educator roles at institutions that list 'visa sponsorship available' or whose HR departments reference DOL certification, since first-time PERM sponsors often underestimate the timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card-sponsoring schools
Filter Educator openings by employers with EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. This cuts out institutions that only offer H-1B visa cap-exempt sponsorship and surfaces schools already familiar with the PERM labor certification process.
Understand how state licensure interacts with PERM
PERM requires your employer to define the minimum requirements for the role. If your state teaching license requires U.S. coursework or a Praxis exam, those requirements must be listed in the labor certification, which affects how your credentials are evaluated during DOL review.
Confirm your employer will sponsor EB-2 versus EB-3
EB-2 requires a demonstrated advanced degree requirement for the position, not just your personal qualifications. Many K-12 roles are classified EB-3 because a bachelor's degree suffices. Clarify which category your employer intends to file under before you accept an offer.
Check the prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role, location, and experience level. Look up your occupation's wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you can flag any offer that falls below the PERM-required minimum.
Green Card Educator: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Educator roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most K-12 teaching positions qualify under EB-3, since they require a bachelor's degree in education or a related field. Postsecondary roles, such as university faculty or instructional coordinators requiring a master's or doctoral degree, can qualify under EB-2. Your employer defines the minimum educational requirement in the PERM labor certification, and that requirement determines the category.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Educators?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary and capped annually, requiring renewal and lottery selection for most applicants. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent, with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries outside India and China. The PERM process takes longer upfront, often one to three years total, but it leads directly to lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary status you must renew.
Which types of employers sponsor Educators for green cards?
Public school districts, charter school networks, community colleges, four-year universities, and private K-12 schools are the most active sponsors. Workforce development organizations and adult education programs also file PERM for qualified Educators. Institutions with dedicated HR or legal teams are more likely to have an established PERM process and can give you a realistic sponsorship timeline.
How can I find Educator jobs with green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Educator openings specifically filtered by employers with EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. This is more reliable than manually screening job postings, since many schools that sponsor visas don't advertise it explicitly in their listings. Filtering by sponsorship history helps you direct your applications to institutions already familiar with PERM.
What role does the DOL prevailing wage play in an Educator PERM application?
Before filing PERM, your employer submits a prevailing wage request to DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification. The certified wage sets the floor for what you must be paid throughout the green card process. You can preview wage levels for your specific occupation, location, and experience using the OFLC Wage Search. Offers below the certified prevailing wage will cause USCIS to deny the I-140 petition even after PERM is approved.
