Green Card Admissions Counselor Jobs
Admissions Counselor roles at universities and colleges can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Employers file with DOL to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available before petitioning USCIS. Finding institutions actively offering sponsorship shortens your path to permanent residency.

Document your degree equivalency early
PERM requires your foreign degree to meet the role's educational requirements. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-accredited service before applying, so employers can confirm your qualifications satisfy the DOL's prevailing-wage and job-description standards.
Target institutions with active PERM history
Public universities and large community college systems file PERM petitions far more frequently than small private colleges. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify which institutions have sponsored Admissions Counselor roles in the past three years.
Search sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Admissions Counselor openings by employers with green card filing history, so you spend time on applications where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process, not an afterthought.
Understand the PERM recruitment timeline upfront
PERM requires employers to run a 30-to-60-day supervised recruitment period before filing. Raise sponsorship in second-round interviews, not the first, and confirm whether the institution's HR team has handled PERM cases before.
Verify your role qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3
Admissions Counselor positions typically require a bachelor's degree, placing most candidates in EB-3. Roles with supervisory or policy responsibilities and a master's degree requirement may support EB-2. Check the O*NET occupation profile and the job posting's stated requirements together.
Confirm the employer's I-140 filing capability
After PERM certification, the employer files I-140 with USCIS to establish your priority date. Ask HR whether they use in-house immigration counsel or an outside law firm, since institutions without established legal support sometimes stall at this stage.
Green Card Admissions Counselor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Admissions Counselor role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Admissions Counselor positions qualify under EB-3, which covers professionals with a U.S. bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent. If the role requires a master's degree and involves specialized counseling or policy functions, EB-2 may apply. The job posting's stated minimum requirements, not the title alone, determine the category USCIS will accept.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, capped at 85,000 annually, and subject to a lottery. EB-3 green card sponsorship has no annual cap on petitions and results in permanent residency. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification and I-140 adjudication typically take one to two years before you can file for adjustment of status, compared to a faster H-1B approval.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor an Admissions Counselor for a green card?
Public research universities, large state college systems, and multi-campus community colleges are the most active PERM filers for student-services roles. These institutions have established HR and legal infrastructure for immigration cases. Smaller private colleges can sponsor but often lack the process experience, which increases the risk of delays or errors during the PERM recruitment period.
How can I find Admissions Counselor jobs where the employer already sponsors green cards?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with documented green card filing history, so you can target institutions that have already run PERM cases for comparable roles. This approach avoids starting conversations with employers who have never sponsored and may not understand the process, which is one of the most common sources of delay for foreign professionals in student-services careers.
What does the PERM process look like for an Admissions Counselor position?
The employer posts the position through a DOL-supervised recruitment process, typically lasting 30 to 60 days, to confirm no qualified U.S. workers are available. DOL then reviews and certifies the labor condition. After certification, the employer files I-140 with USCIS to establish your priority date. You can file for adjustment of status once a visa number is available for your country of birth.
