Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Electrical Controls Engineer
Translate your credentials for PERM requirements
Your foreign engineering degree needs to be evaluated for U.S. equivalency before PERM filing begins. A credential evaluation that maps your coursework to electrical or controls engineering specifically strengthens the employer's job requirements case with DOL.
Prioritize employers with active PERM filings
Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm whether a target employer has filed PERM applications for controls or automation roles. Employers with recent filings already understand the process and are less likely to withdraw sponsorship midway.
Search sponsored Electrical Controls Engineer jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by green card sponsorship history, so you reach employers already running PERM for controls engineering roles rather than cold-pitching companies that have never sponsored a foreign engineer.
Document specialized PLC and SCADA experience clearly
PERM job requirements must match your actual background. Employers often narrow the role to specific platforms like Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 to justify sponsoring a foreign worker. Make sure your resume mirrors that language precisely.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility before the offer stage
EB-2 applies if the role requires a master's degree or equivalent; EB-3 covers bachelor's-level positions. Raising this with your employer before the offer is signed prevents a costly PERM amendment if the category needs to change later.
Ask about concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing timing
Once PERM is certified, USCIS allows concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing when a visa number is immediately available for your country. Knowing your priority date and the monthly Visa Bulletin cutoff helps you plan the adjustment of status timeline with your employer.
Green Card Electrical Controls Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Electrical Controls Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are possible depending on how the employer defines the position. EB-3 applies when the role requires a bachelor's degree in electrical or controls engineering. EB-2 applies if the employer genuinely requires a master's degree or equivalent advanced credentials for the specific position. The PERM application must reflect the actual minimum requirements the employer would accept from any candidate, so the category is determined before filing begins.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status tied to your employer and subject to an annual lottery. PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The process takes longer, typically two to four years from PERM filing to a green card for applicants from non-backlogged countries, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a status you need to renew and defend every few years.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for controls engineering roles?
Your employer files an ETA Form 9089 with DOL after completing a supervised recruitment process designed to show no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. For controls engineering positions, the job requirements typically reference specific platforms, certifications, or systems. DOL may audit the filing if requirements appear narrowly tailored. Certification usually takes six to eighteen months, after which USCIS reviews the I-140 immigrant petition.
How can I find Electrical Controls Engineer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Electrical Controls Engineer roles at employers with documented green card sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which companies are willing to run PERM. Filtering by sponsorship history saves you from spending months in a process only to learn the employer won't cover PERM costs.
Can I change employers after my I-140 is approved but before I get my green card?
Yes, under AC21 portability, once your I-140 is approved and your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days, you can move to a same or similar controls engineering role with a new employer without losing your priority date. The new role must be in the same occupational category, which for Electrical Controls Engineers generally means staying within electrical, industrial, or automation engineering functions.
