Finance Professor Green Card Jobs
Finance Professor roles at U.S. universities qualify for EB-2 sponsorship when the position requires a doctoral degree, and many institutions file PERM labor certifications as standard practice for tenure-track hires. Understanding how the prevailing wage determination and recruitment attestation requirements apply to academic appointments gives you a real edge in securing sponsorship.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Finance Professor
Document your teaching and research credentials early
Gather syllabi, publication records, grant histories, and student evaluations before applying. PERM requires employers to attest that no qualified U.S. worker was displaced, so your dossier needs to clearly distinguish your specialization from generalist candidates.
Target universities with established PERM filing infrastructure
Research-intensive universities and land-grant institutions typically have dedicated international faculty offices that manage PERM filings routinely. Smaller liberal arts colleges may sponsor but often lack in-house experience, which can extend your timeline significantly.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Finance Professor openings by employers with confirmed green card sponsorship history. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to departments that have never navigated the PERM process for academic hires.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 pathway before accepting an offer
A tenure-track Finance Professor role typically qualifies for EB-2 due to the doctoral degree requirement, but some visiting or non-tenure positions may only support EB-3. Confirm which category your offer supports before the I-140 stage to avoid reclassification delays.
Verify prevailing wage requirements using the OFLC Wage Search
DOL sets prevailing wage tiers by SOC code and geographic location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your offered salary meets Level II or Level III thresholds for postsecondary business and finance teachers before your employer submits the PERM application.
Time your PERM filing around the academic hiring cycle
Most tenure-track searches conclude in spring, but PERM processing at DOL currently averages well over a year. Ask your department chair or international office to begin the prevailing wage determination immediately after your offer letter is signed, not after onboarding.

Find Finance Professor JobsFinance Professor Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Finance Professor role qualify for EB-2 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Tenure-track and most full-time Finance Professor positions require a doctoral degree, which meets the EB-2 advanced degree standard. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL, then an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Visiting or adjunct roles may only support EB-3, so confirm the classification with your institution's international office before accepting an offer.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
An H-1B gives you temporary status in three-year increments and is subject to the annual cap lottery for most employers. A PERM-based green card is a permanent immigration benefit with no annual cap at the EB-2 level for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: green card processing typically takes two to four years or longer, whereas an H-1B approval can be obtained within months.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for academic hires?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign, document that no qualified U.S. worker applied, and submit attestations about prevailing wage compliance. For university positions, this often includes national journal advertising and campus posting requirements. The university's legal counsel or HR office manages the filing, but your publication record and specialization directly affect how the recruitment is framed.
How can I find Finance Professor jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Finance Professor openings filtered specifically by employers with green card sponsorship history, saving you from applying to departments that have never filed a PERM petition. Standard academic job boards list positions without sponsorship status, so you can spend months in a search cycle before discovering an employer won't sponsor.
Can my family members get green cards through my Finance Professor sponsorship?
Yes. Your spouse and unmarried children under 21 are included as derivative beneficiaries on your immigrant visa application. They receive the same priority date as your I-140 petition and can adjust status or apply for immigrant visas alongside you. USCIS allows concurrent filing of the I-485 adjustment of status when a visa number is immediately available, which covers derivatives automatically.
